Re: Rod Stewart's epic model railway

Knew he was a keen on train sets (if my boss was reading this he would be fuming) as when the model railway group in Peterborough had their equipment vandalised he made a payment to them.

Re: Rod Stewart's epic model railway

I seem to remember hearing yesterday that he wasn't happy that his railway had been exposed?

I think the guy should be bloody proud of it. These days far too many youngsters are into violent video games and trying to be the hard nut on the estate (worryingly these days the same sorts of kids now live in developments too).

Nice kids back in the 80s were always into this sort of thing and they turned out to be pretty decent people IMO.

Every rough person i have encountered over the years has had an obsession with violent games.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

That's odd, why did he do the interview and allow the pictures to be taken one has to ask.

Re: Rod Stewart's epic model railway

If I had his money I might consider buying a real railway. After all there are enough old tracks and branch lines that could do with being brough back into use. Not the same I know, but just a thought.

Easy to say, difficult to do!

It can cost millions to buy up an old railway route and relay track on it. Many were sold off and despite being still very clearly visible on satellite imagery, they're owned privately by farmers etc.

I looked into compulsory purchase orders for railway routes a few years ago. Heritage lines can apply for them as well as notwork fail however you're looking at around £3 million per mile.

Of course with that said, with rockstar money it's doable.. but not many will do so because railways are expensive to run and maintain.. and greed / lack of wanting to loose the money kicks in.

But real railways can also be a bit boring compared to the novelty of a smaller one!

If it were me and i had the money I'd certainly buy up an old route but then i'd lay a miniature railway down in its place instead of a large one - less costly, easier to lay, easier to maintain etc.
