Renaming the Vacuum Cleaner

We are having a problem with the cleaner at work. She insists on calling the vacuum cleaner a Hoover. I have explained that Hoover in this context is a generic name and that vacuum cleaner is the correct name.
However she has, quite correctly pointed out that the device does NOT clean vacuums and therefore the name is misleading.
Maybe someone can suggest a more appropriate and accurate name for this device.
Sorry for posing such a taxing question at such an early hour Embarrassed

@pierre
I don't want to replace one generic name with another or others and there is the issue of Intellectual Property Rights. Undecided
@adiewoo
Good try but it's not quite specific enough to dispel doubts if you see what I mean. Smiley

Re: Renaming the Vacuum Cleaner

As Leonard de Quirm first named it, we could go back to his name:
Device for the removal of dust by means of vacuum suction and a long hose. Grin
Terry P would be very happy.

A copper pipe does not pipe copper.
A pressure cooker does not cook pressure.
A feather duster is not for dusting feathers.
I see no problem with using the term vacuum cleaner. I do have a problem with using one though but that's just because I'm a single bloke with a love of sitting around doing nothing.

Re: Renaming the Vacuum Cleaner

Of course the other classic in this case is most homes have 'central heating' and on the walls are 'radiators' ... those 'radiators' are not ... they are convecting though.

She insists on calling the vacuum cleaner a Hoover.

Clearly the word Hoover is a brand name rather than a type/class of device or product.
So what brand of product is it ... tell her if she wants to be really accurate, she will have to call it a Panasonic or Electrolux or whateve brand it really is.

Re: Renaming the Vacuum Cleaner

Radiator or convector,  Mine radiate heat, it all depends on the surface temperature of the metal, if you stand about half metre in front and at the same level and you can feel heat, they are radiating.  convection  is where it passes heat to the air moving over then which then moves around the room, i.e. you can feel the heat at a higher level only Cool
