Red Arrows

The Red Arrows gave a fantastic display over Portsmouth yesterday to commemorate D Day.

Re: Red Arrows

They really are an excellent display team and great ambassadors for the country - any idea what is different about the display for the 50th?

Re: Red Arrows

Hoping to catch them at Lymington tomorrow (Saturday). They're due at 3:30pm for a full display.

Re: Red Arrows

Sadly, as usual with the military these days the future of the Red Arrows or the way it operates hangs in the balance and has done for quite a long time.
It will be a very sad day indeed if this wonderful team becomes just another figure on the balance sheet

Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Red Arrows

That line is trotted out year on year. If you listened to the press they would have gone years ago.

Re: Red Arrows

Some time ago there was talk of them being axed as part of defence cuts. There was a lot of public outcry which had some influence.  As stated in petlew's link David Cameron committed that they would not be axed all the time he was PM.

Re: Red Arrows

If the politicians stop wasting billions of ££££ then there would be no need for 60 - 70% of these cuts

That line is trotted out year on year. If you listened to the press they would have gone years ago.

if it hadn't been for public outrage over proposals to scrap multiple parts of the UKAF then brown and haine would of slashed all of it in 1998 when they decided to conduct an defence review on the grounds that "a penny spent on defence is a penny wasted", this country wouldn't be in the sorry mess it is without he criminals who totally undermined our armed forces and despite everything somehow they rallied together and with the aid of the press fought off the majority of the cuts, sadly though most of the public goodwill aspects were shut down as costing too much, and in that light its only through media campaigns that the red arrows (and a few other key parts of our armed forces) have survived the cuts over the last 20 years, (like how come we keep drawing down the active full time service components despite having far greater commitments than in the past)
of course because they signed a treaty to create an EU militia and to agree to dissolve any standing force (the same one that saw the end to germanies conscription's in 2011) back in the late 90's theres nothing the nation can do without renegotiating the treaty (which effectively states that no nation will have more than a large battalion of full time troops by 2020 but all will supply manpower to the EU militia so that it can maintain a 50k standing presence.......
the red arrows will disappear along with everything else if nothing is done to save them, no doubt some clever so and so will be along to request proof to classified documents as they cant find reference to them (the hail did publish a few stories about the secret documents back in the early 00's) but meh idiots will always choose to disbelieve the truth
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Re: Red Arrows

Great display at Lymington this afternoon. The routine has certainly developed since I last saw them in 2012. Hopefully the powers that be will realise that their popularity with the public makes them good value, even if the accountants can't quite work out why.
