It's been announced that pub hours are to be extended for a couple of days in May to mark the 75th anniversay of VE Day.
Am I excited?
Not really given the price of a pint, early nights at my age, and not helped by the fact that we don't actually have a local "heart of the community" pub anyway.
So if anything it'll be a couple of bottles of Tadcasters finest, feet up, and watch the Dambusters (1955 Version) at full volume!
As we haven't actually got any yet, British airmen being shown how to land the new Lockheed Martin F-35.
Don't limit the friends you haven't met with arguments you'll never have.

`S Funny... I thought that licenced hours restrictions had been removed years ago... and pubs could stay open as long as they wanted...
I wonder how many people will actually "celebrate" the 75th anniversary of VE day, by going to the pub and having a few beers over a longer period of time..
on the other hand..
I wonder how many people will actually "celebrate" the 75th anniversary of VE day,
If you asked the local drinking populace in the town on any night, especially Fridays and Saturdays... not many would even know what VE day is/was

Same here, thought drinking hours were a thing of the past but here's thing and given they were introduced during one of the wars (something to do with production?) why not celebrate the day by ending those opening hour restrictions completely.
Mind you, something rather nostaligic about hearing that bell and the shout of "time gentlemen please, let's have your glasses" followed by a quick gulp of what beer was left, a burp, and then "right lads, whose for a Ruby?"

Yes, we were expected to adopt a more Continental drinking culture, yet binge drinking persisted. My view is that a business should be able to open all hours as long as they are not in a residential area where it causes problems for their neighbours. You older guys may remember the restrictions on Sunday trading where in Scotland shops were able to open, but down here you could buy soft porn on Sundays but not a Bible.
Some ingenious ways around the law were found, like a furniture outlet keeping a crate of oranges by the till and offering a piece of furniture free with every (very expensive and variably priced) orange.

Oh just the irony of someone telling people to "get over it" when that person can't get over the fact the UK is not going to re-unite with the EU...

You seem to fail to understand the basics of democracy @twocvbloke . The vote in 2016 was to leave the EU. I accept that. However, there was no element of that decision which precludes rejoining, which is what I believe should happen. Get over that!

And the vote counted to Leave, and we left, and we are not returning because I'm sure that there will be no vote to re-join the EU, as it would require the EU to extend an invite for us to do so, and after the debarcle that has happened over the past few years, I somehow doubt that'll take place...

@RobC @Anonymous
Really?
OK maybe, but that's after kicking and screaming for a second referendum etc. etc. - which you got in the form of a General Election and lost badly. Bad loser still wants another attempt at uniting with what we've rejected (so doesn't really accept the majority decision) - ain't gonna happen anytime soon, get over that.

Ah, my mistake. I erroneously assumed you understood the concept of irony.
ps The Second World War still ended 75 years ago, and you and you Dambusters loving fellow xenophobic forum members still need to get over it.
