Propaganda

Not uncommon for a initial post to get highjacked and the topic changed to something else.....done it myself at times.

But I have noticed one person in particular appears to be using the forum for his or her personal use to introduce a topic that has been discussed to the point of boredom into posts that have absolutely no relevance to that topic and whilst understandable as a one of it becomes a nuisance when it becomes persistent.

Perhaps we we a rule change to prevent this behaviour ?

We are born into history and history is born into us.

Re: Propaganda

The trouble with a rule change is that the moderators would have to make a subjective decision to sanction the offender, and the moderators would be placed in a difficult position and could be accused of bias.  It would also give the moderators even more work, because they would only likely act on reported posts, so that puts the onus on individual forum members to be highlighting and reporting offending behaviour.

Instead, how about automating the process ?,  for example if there was a new "thumbs down" button, so if a forum member received more than say ten new "thumbs down", then that member would be automatically blocked from posting.  Then each subsequent day that passed, the forum software could decrement the "thumbs down" count until it reached zero, at which point the member would be allowed to post again.

This would be a much fairer system, as each forum contributor can only "thumbs down" each reply once, so for an offending member to accumulate ten "thumbs down" and be blocked, it would be a collective vote by all other forum members, and not down to moderators, individuals or a small group of haters.

The benefit of the "thumbs down" idea, is that it will make members more mindful of posting constructive replies,  as they will soon be called out if posting confrontational or disruptive content.

No, please no.

There are a number of posters who cannot be relied on to have a civilised conversation on even the most innocuous of topics. Giving them a 'thumbs down' buttion is asking for trouble.

Re: Propaganda

@198kHz  so if you were in charge of this forum, what would you do ?

As it is, I am unlikely to return as a regular contributor here any time soon 🙁

O Cyrillic hell. What is that all about? It could be musical porn, I don't want. No thumbs from me @shutter  until you provide a certified translation. Grin

Re: Propaganda

A lot of "pop" sounds all the same to me.

A musical droning.
