Re: Power Cuts... The Plus Side, and being Positive

The back fence has disappeared over night... I have no idea where it's gone!  Shocked
The sattelite dish has held though.  Cool
My parents farm has been trashed though.  2 Barns are down, the roof of the house has lifted, and theres trees down all over.  Sad

Good thinking....I've just checked my dish, it's still there but I checked alignment and it seems ok.

There were benefits of the old fuses that you could take out and remove the wire Wink

Re: Power Cuts... The Plus Side, and being Positive

We've just had our first major power cut for ages...
A couple of blinks of power, followed by a two hour outage, just around Dinner time Thursday
Cooking on an Electric Hob / Oven unit, we finished off using one of the Portable Gas Cookers.
Illumination provided by Head Lights, and battery powered LED's Area lights, along with 12v Car Battery LED Stick.
"Dinner by Candlelight "

Afterwards, fired up the Router with the battery powered 12v PSU, and did a bit of Internet Surfing and TV watching using the hudl, bought for this very purpose.

At least the Power Cut wasn't in the Morning, whilst having a Shower !!
Back to filling the sink with hot water pre-shower from later Today, for rinsing purposes.
We have a battery powered PIR light in the Bathroom, as also dotted around the property.

It is a warm night, so no CH needed.
Power now restored, a warning for the coming Winter !

Power cut  today, again lunchtime !!
Well it was too good to last, but it's been nearly 10 months !!
Checked the fuel in the Generators, and that they worked OK...
Forecast really bad weather overnight, in fact it's starting to go dark early.
A quick catch up on emails, then it's unplug the computers, and the main TV, all electronics are fed by Surge Protected systems, but better safe than sorry...
Phones charged up, backup batteries checked.....

Here we go.........

Re: Power Cuts... The Plus Side, and being Positive

I'm sorted for powercuts, LED lighting hooked up to solar-charged batteries, an Aladdin no. 23 mantle lamp (provides both light and a heck of a lot of heat), 3x UPS units (fourth on the way) for when the power goes off so nothing gets banjaxed in the process, and out in the shed is a cheapo chinese-made 2KW generator that I should really get round to finishing off repairing... Grin
That said, despite the poor-quality of the distribution network here, the power's not really cut for more than a few seconds, so easily absorbed by my UPSes...

Less Power to the People
National Grid warns of 'brown-outs' in supplies to prevent potential total black-outs
Most importantly to the DM:
The first brown-out could come within ten days, leaving TV and computer screens blank and kettles struggling to boil water.
Yes, it's that time of Year again !
