Re: Plusnet and TalkTalk joint bottom on Watchdog Survey

Very true @Rose3 but then a company is only as good as the folks that work for it at the time and where direct communication is concerned.

Prior to going over to FTTP I had no end of long standing issues with them over line speed and service but now, no problem - but then I never have to phone them so...

Re: Plusnet and TalkTalk joint bottom on Watchdog Survey

I have been on FTTP for a couple of years so could be the reason why I am still happy with Plusnet ? Never had a problem since the installation.  Last year, without my prompting was offered a more up to date router which was so easy to install. (I am in my 80’s so broadband etc came to me, very late in life !).

Re: Plusnet and TalkTalk joint bottom on Watchdog Survey

At work we use a specialist provider who resells Talk-Talk business 'lines', we have had several, quite lengthy, 'outages' in the last few months, my Plusnet connection has only 'dropped out' when my router has recieved updates during the last two or three years so I know which is more reliable.

The issue of telephone waiting times is highly dependant on when you call, I must have been lucky since I have rarely had to wait more than a few minutes when calling about contract renewal or similar.

Oh, and this Community Forum is better than anything any of the other large providers offer.

Plusnet taken over by BT in 2007,  ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plusnet ) -the good thing is that they get all the BT technical resources behind them,  the bad thing is maybe customer service has suffered.

Re: Plusnet and TalkTalk joint bottom on Watchdog Survey

Personally I have had no issues with PN, speed and line have always been stable and whilst the renewal price was not as good as for first time customers that seems to be a standard thing across all ips companies.

Personally I would rather stick to a company that provides the service I want than risk a change to save a couple of pounds a month although I accept some may find a saving of £ 24 a year is worth taking a risk for.

Not funny really but I did see a post from one disgruntled customer which said...' If you do not want me as a customer why not just tell me to (censored) off instead of constantly messing me around.

Re: Plusnet and TalkTalk joint bottom on Watchdog Survey

Only issues I've had with PN was my first use of them, transferring the phone number from the old ISP, which resold-TalkTalk's services under their own brand (forget the name of them now), and said ISP "lost" in the transfer somehow, blaming it on TT, not PN's fault though, but made the switch a bit more of a faff, and then when switching away to Vodafone there was a billing issue, which was sorted out and I was sent a nice bar of chocolate too...

Daveplus,

Not sure if this is the answer you are looking for ?  On BBC 1, Watchdog Live yesterday evening, there was an item on best and worse broadband providers, Sky came top, Plusnet and Talk Talk were at the bottom.  That is where this discussion springs from.

@Rose3

I realised that and did a ps 2 hours ago.

I understand that it was not about ISPs overall but the rather limited matter of customer services. I have been with Plusnet for 9 years and have always found CS very helpful.

There are many evaluations that focus on one aspect of the service. For example, ThinkBroadband are mainy interested in speed..

Try phoning our local surgery, we have the same auto message twice as it has to be given in both English and Welsh.

As for the music it really is to die for, at least that's what it feels like. At least with Greensleeves or Vivalidi you knew you were in a musical version of hell on earth... and that it was going to be a long long wait.

"Just answer the the phone FF* sake!"

And how about that jolt to the senses when you suddenly realise that a human voice is actually talking to you?

Where did I see that comedy sketch where the guy phoning keeps getting passed from pillar to post only to be answered finally by "Hello, boiler room". :2funny:

@Minivanman Clearly special measures are needed for you.  I wonder if some boffins could somehow lay the english and welsh phonemes, one on the other to produce something not as time wasting.

Think what could emerge from:

All our operatives are engaged. Your call is important to us. Please hold. You are number 49 in the queue.

and

Mae ein holl weithwyr yn ymgysylltu. Mae eich galwad yn bwysig i ni. Daliwch os gwelwch yn dda. Nid ydych yn 49 yn y ciw.:2funny:

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

@Luzern

Well that sounds familiar!

As for combining the two, you not might surprised to hear Wenglish spoken around these parts. It really is half and and half and not unlike English being spoken backwards.

All good fun, and we are all the better for it.

Re: Plusnet and TalkTalk joint bottom on Watchdog Survey

I think that customer expectation is an issue and the more the customer expects the more likely they are to be unhappy!  My main concern is that the deal you get may well depend on who answers the phone at the company end. I am never sure I get the best deal from PN, but it does work consistently.

Two other instances. RAC car cover - No real progress and overpriced. Third phone call and a really nice lady gave me same price as previous year plus an additional three months!

Scottish Power -  poor renewals on website so I phoned up to complain. A helpful man said the best prices were on Uswitch, just enter your existing customer number....!!

Hey ho!

I'm wondering if I could try the same 'renewal' tactic at the checkout in Tesco.

"Sorry, not really happy with that total amount, so give me a better deal or I'll just leave it where it is".

Worth a try?
