Place names

I just watching the cycling on the TV when they announced the name of one of the towns along the route. I always thought Dorking is an antisocial activity carried late at night in lonely country lanes.  Are there other UK place names which evoke similar misconceptions by the forum members?
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Place names

I'd always thought "Skinners Bottom" was a late night comedy show until I saw the sign post near Redruth.

Re: Place names

You sure you don't mean dogging not Dorking? Not that I have any idea what dogging is!

Anyone been near Pratts Bottom?

I've seen a signpost in Yorkshire to Land of Nod.  Followed it once and it led nowhere Smiley

No but I've been to Cockington.
I wonder if Shitterton, Dorset is as bad as it sounds?
That didn't get past the censor Cheesy If I were to avoid the swear filter would I fall foul of the rules even though it is a real place?
