Personal Hints & Tips Thread

A useful thread I hope, passing on your own Hints & Tips to others
I suggest, one tip per post...
( I have many ! )

Pills, recording when to take next
At the moment, I am taking two sets of painkillers for a Cat Bite, two of each every 6 hours.
It is so easy to forget when I am next due to take them, so I note, with a Sharpie, on the tablet strips, when 6 hours after I have just taken them, is up.
You will see I sometimes have longer than 6 hours between pills, depending on pain.
But when I take them, I note on the strip when another 6 hours is up.
That way, I don't take too many, before I am due.

Soaking Labels off bottles
When wanting to soak labels off bottles, to re-use the bottles, I soak the bottle, plastic bottles best with original contents as they are then usually heavier than water, I soak them in a top cut off 2 litre Pepsi, Coke etc bottle.
Usually takes around 3 days, and doesn't tie up a washing up bowl.
Sometimes with just a drop of washing up liquid, to act as a wetting agent.
Works a treat, on every bottle tried so-far.

Keeping Shower Glass clean
After much cleaning of a "dirty" water & gel stained glazed shower door, with various cleaning products including wire wool !
To keep it spotless, after each shower, I now squeegee down the Glazed door on the Shower with a £1 Squeegee.

When cutting open a plastic bag containing frozen Veg, chips etc, I only cut halfway across the top, helps keep the bag closed when back in the freezer.

Re: Personal Hints & Tips Thread

Good tip for soaking labels off...especially for when the labels are completely around the bottle/jar.

Re: Personal Hints & Tips Thread

I use this method for removing the labels off Coffee Jars  in Jars I do not like, for ease of opening, and putting onto the Jars from another make I do like to open, being One Twist, rather than two twists with clicks..
Hope that makes sense.  Wink

A hair dryer is good for many types.

I use an alcohol swab. The swab contains 70% isopropyl alcohol. This is an excellent method for cleaning the residue glue off an item.

Re: Personal Hints & Tips Thread

For my Fridge juice jugs, I drill a small hole away from the spout, on the lid, makes for easier pouring with no splashback .
Similar for milk cartons, 1ltr, a small hole away from the pouring side, made before cutting a small pour spout, made with a skewer, and rotated.
These allow air in, away from the spout.

I shake & flip carrier bags, to make a balloon shape, tie the handles, and put this in my kitchen bin, to act as a buffer to keep any smells in.
