Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

I have just had three emails to indicate that three payments have been made to FacebookIreland Ltd.
Assuming these to be fishing scams I was about to delete when I decided to check my Paypal accout (by entering the URL directly and not clicking a link in the email).
Sure enough I can see three amounts paid to Facebook Irelenad Ltd (FACEBOOK) totalling £136.36!
There was also a Pre-Approved payment scheme set up which I never authorised and have cancelled in the hope that it will prevent further payments from happening.
A Google search seems to indicate that others have suffered from this in the past. I wanted to ring PayPal but their lines are closed so have emailed with all the details. Will probably ring tomorrow.
Has anyone else been hit by this fraud or know any more about it?
Edit: Just checked my Facebook account to se if that has been hacked in some way...
There are no payment schemes set up and no history of payments ever being made which is what I expected

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

Yes, that's the thread I found. Very worrying, indeed.
I have just removed both my debit and credit cards from PayPal until this is sorted and I have found out how it happened.

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

From PayPal
[quote="PayPal "]
Hey guys,
If you see payments on your account to anyone, not just Facebook, and you don’t recognise them then you should open ‘Unauthorised Transaction’ cases for these payments. Here's how to report an unauthorised transaction:
1.  Go to www.paypal.co.uk and log in to your account.
2.  Click 'Resolution Centre' near the top of the page.
3.  Click 'Dispute a Transaction.'
4.  Select 'Unauthorised transaction: I did not authorise a recent transaction.' and click 'Continue.'
5.  Follow the steps to report the transaction.
I would also advise you to change your password immediately and cancel any subscriptions set up to Facebook that you don’t recognise. You can cancel your subscriptions in the ‘My Money’ section of your Profile.

Hope this helps.
[Edit]
On Facebook
Could be worthwhile checking:
> Profile
> My Money
> My pre-approved payments

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

Been trying to talk to my bank to ensure they are aware of what's going on as the money taken would take me past my overdraft Angry
Meanwhile I have just received three emails from PayPal informing me the three amounts have been refunded. Phew.
Currently running full scans of the PC but as I belt & braces security I doubt if I'll find anything untoward.
Just to add the bank was as good as useless, anyway ;(

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

Thanks shutter.
Sent email to PP at around 21:30 with refund appearing less than 50 minutes later.
I hope that's the end of the fraudulant usage but I will still contact PP to try and discover how this happened before I re-add my cards. I can live without PP Smiley

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

Seems a good idea to check on your Paypal account to see if any pre-approved payment schemes are open.  I checked mine yesterday (under profile) and found a company I once bought a pair of jeans from had opened one for any future transactions I was likely to make.  Needless to say I unticked the box and closed it.

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

As a converse - I have a business account with PayPal and discovered they'd restricted it only when they sent me a questionnaire asking me about my experience of the restriction. I'm still awaiting an explanation from them for reasons for the "restriction", there were no transactions for the past couple of months on the account.
I've long since removed my credit card details from the PayPal account as I really do not trust them one inch!
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

Is it just facebook Ireland that are involved ?
If there are other companies doing this then I might be inclined to cancel my Paypal account.

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

Although I've had the funds returned I am still a bit miffed as I have twice emailed asking for information on how these transactions appeared, had my account be compromised and confirmation that there are methods in place to prevent it happening again.
I have received two replies each just statng that they can see that the refunds have been made and if I have any further enquires then let to them know Roll eyes

Re: Paypal Payment to Facebook Ireland

Just had a long chat with a lady from my bank (how refreshing to actually get someone in the UK this time).
We can see that the PayPal transactions are pending so those amounts are no longer avaialble till around the 2nd when, if PayPal's refund has been actioned successfully, the monies will be made available to me. This is such a pain as being on a fixed income means I have to survive for over a week without it Gggggggrrrrrrrrrr Sad
For added security I decided to cancel my Debit card and have a new one issued which should be with me within a couple of days.
The lady at the bank did say that perhaps someone obtained my card details but I don't see how they could have made purchases through PayPal unless that was compromised.
