Pass the Lettuce..

Rabbit-hutch Britain:
Growing health concerns as UK sets record for smallest properties in Europe
“The majority of homes in the UK are not fully occupied and yet residents are dissatisfied with the amount of space, with lack of storage space, insufficient space for furniture and lack of space in which to socialise often cited as particular problems”

No mention though of the 3/4 sized furniture they place in the Showhouses !

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/rabbithutch-britain-growing-health-concerns-as-uk-set...
And from Eric Pickles in 2013
Communities secretary Eric Pickles has warned that people will be condemned to “rabbit hutch houses”
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/greenpolitics/planning/9955429/People-condemned-to-living-in-rabbit...

Should fit in well with the new Diets we're now supposed to follow !!
eg: School milk for all pupils under meals shake-up which bans sweets, limits fruit juice and only allows ships twice a week
Not sure what Ships have to do with it ?Huh
But then it is the Daily Mail !

And here's Eric again ......

Re: Pass the Lettuce..

Strange how this is only making the news now when it's been known for years - it was even a question on QI like 5 years ago  Roll eyes
It's not like it's a surprise: we have this totally irrational - and utterly wrong - idea that high house prices are somehow a good thing.  It's complete madness.  We pay WAY more for WAY less than anyone else in europe and somehow continue to believe that we're better off  Undecided
Really?
Strange definition of better off ..

Re: Pass the Lettuce..

About 15 years ago, we accompanied a young married couple, relatives, in looking around some houses, Derbyshire.
They wanted new, preferably.
We looked around a new small estate, and when we went back to the site showroom office, the Agent all expectedly ask us what we thought...
We said, the houses were really small, the rooms were really small, a so called 3rd bedroom was a box room, and the garden was minute.
She was really taken aback !!
Very soon afterwards, the young couple bought a 10 year old detached house with 7 beds, for not much more than the estate houses, large rooms, and a massive garden, less than a mile away !
And yet, the estate houses did sell, eventually !!

Exactly the same situation when my parents were looking for a new property after the council were compulsory purchasing their property in London.
They wanted new but so many were just too small and the gardens as well. Eventually I began to dislike viewing the show homes as it was obvious they were set out to make the rooms seem larger than they really were and often asked to view a finished home where possible.
