Over 3.5 hours this year...

...we'll still be watching Wink
Good luck UK  - for the first time in a long while I haven't heard any other songs.

Just watched the opening. Certainly well staged. The opening 2 songs are unbelievably bad and I can't stand Graham Norton - one of the most irritating men on TV.

Re: Over 3.5 hours this year...

Voting was better this year and at least UK never came last - that was left to Germany and Austria with Null Points.
My favourite was Italy.
Ah, well, always next year Grin

Sweden Win.

Sweden's first Eurovision victory was in 1974 with the song "Waterloo", performed by ABBA.
I was working at Thames TV at the time, and ABBA recorded several TV shows & appearances on other shows.
They were just normal folks, extremely nice & friendly, and spent a lot of time in the Thames Restaurant just chatting to Staff.
In the TV Studios, they were totally professional.
Agnetha and Anna-Frid were totally Gorgeous and Beautiful.
(And still are)

I agree with you Italy was the best song Smiley
Sweden's success had a lot to do with the clever presentation.

Eurovision song contest has a really big cult following in Australia, they where invited to enter a song just for this year as its the 60th year of the contest.
If Australia had of won they would have had to nominate a country in Europe to hold next years event.

well it`s a bit of a "lottery" who wins.... so.. you "have to be in it, to win it"......ipso facto... if you can`t afford to put on the show.... pretend you have lost your application form,  Cheesy

I've heard that, too, but not sure of it's validity.
As far as I remember it has been hosted 6 times in countries that didn't win the previous year:
1957 Germany hosted as Switzerland didn't want to host a second time
1960 UK hosted after the Dutch didn't want to host
1963 UK again as France didn't want to host for a third time
1972 UK as Monaco had nowhere to host the event
1974 UK as Luxembourg couldn't afford it
1980 Netherlands as Israel didn't want to host for 2nd year running
So I doubt if a winning country would purposely jeopardise their chance of winning Roll eyes
UK has hosted the contest the most times!
