Opinions please

We were talking to some friends who have booked a cruise next year with a well known company.
A few days ago they got a letter to inform them three of the places they were due to call at have been changed.
On contacting the company they were informed that the conditions in the back of the brochure clearly state that the "itinerary can be changed" and to cancel the holiday would result in the loss of the deposit.
So it would appear that nothing can be done but it does raise a few interesting points,
1. What does itinerary mean ? some people might argue it means the order of places visited rather than a change of places.
2. If it means a change of place how many changes could be considered reasonable ?
3. If a travel company can legally change the itinerary, then in theory you could book a few weeks in the Med only to find it had been changed to a trip around Alaska  or  any other place they decided on.

Re: Opinions please

If they can prove that they booked the cruise specifically for the destinations that have been cancelled then I think they would have a case for getting their deposit back.  Worth checking with a solicitor to see where they stand.  A lot of solicitors offer half an hour of time free.  Household insurance policies also have access to legal advice.
