Online Banking Security

HSBC has just advised that I'll be receiving one of these devices
Anyone used this one or one supplied by another bank?

Re: Online Banking Security

Yep - I've used something similar through Barclays for the last couple of years.
Bit of a pain, but works fine.

Re: Online Banking Security

I'm with Lloyds TSB but have not been offered one.  Is it a limited trial they are doing Strat?

Re: Online Banking Security

I've had one of these for a long time from Smile...

It works well.  A code is generated on the website, you input this into the reader while your card is inserted; this then generates another couple of numbers that you have to input before a transaction can be made.

Re: Online Banking Security

Same one as Nationwide which I've had for about 18 months-ish.

Seems HSBC have been a bit slow on the uptake.

Re: Online Banking Security

I've been using Barclays' PinSentry for a long time.
No good when you're out unless you take the machine with you and remember your membership number.
You can still log on without it but, IIRC, you are then limited to what you can do online.

Re: Online Banking Security

Thanks for all the replies  Smiley
I've noticed that some devices require a bank card and HSBC one doesn't.
@4C - from journeys post HSBC has had them for a while but I've only been with them for nearly 76 years so well down the list  Wink

Re: Online Banking Security

I don't have any of those with Lloyds TSB.
I do get a phonecall though if I setup a payment to a new person that I haven't used before.
I've also not had any problems with using my banking online (or credit cards) to date unlike others where more sophisticated security processes are in place.
We do use the calculator approach to it all at work though.
