One for the mathematicians:

Next Saturday will be the 1st March 2008 (it being a leap year) My analogue wrist watch date will read if not adjusted 30 (for a hypothetical 30th February) by 3rd April, the date on my watch will read 1 again it will read 1 on 5th May, projecting this forward to 1st March 2009, unadjusted my watch will read 1 on the 11th March.
So question; left to it's own devices and, assuming unlimited battery life, taking into account short months and leap years etc. when will my wrist watch again read the correct date on the 1st of March? At the age of 62 (and in reasonable health) can I expect realistically to ever see the correct date again? I don't however need to worry about batteries, as it's a Seiko Kinetic and doesn't use them, as long as I keep moving!!

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Well there is a positive side to all this; you could apply for a government grant for research into this, and mention it's possible impact on global warming. Sure to interest those looking for a fast buck!

Good idea shutter, but I did point out my watch is kinetic and, doesn't use them.

In the first  line of the second part, you stated  quote  assuming unlimited battery life,  unquote
then went on to qualify that with the remark about it being Kinetic..... in the last sentence.
with respect to the last remark, and in mitigation of my first response to this vexing question, which will no doubt be discussed at the next G5 meeting in some exotic island....
1 remove the battery on the 1st of March.... (if applicable)
2 every year after that
3. If no battery fitted, remove the watch on 1st March, and leave in a locked safe
4 check the watch on 1st of march every year after removing the watch  Roll eyes Grin Grin Grin

Re: One for the mathamaticians:

I bow to your greater knowledge in these political issues shutter. And I apologise for my misleading double dutch in my post. I now realise that if I pulled out the handset button on my kinetic watch for 28, 30 or 31 days the watch would remain at the last indicated date and, could be pressed back in at the right date to restart the time. In the period of time that the watch was unusable for telling the time, I could be better employed purchasing a new wristwatch without a date readout!!

Re: One for the mathamaticians:

As a Chartered Mathematician (and full-time pedant) can anyone tell me what "mathamaticians" are please?
And on a practical note, I'm sure the watch has a facility to alter the date without stopping it.  Grin
