Re: On a lighter note

Always wondered what that song was about. Any ideas?

Thanks for sharing a memory from a time when my kiddies were tiny, mortgage was at 17%, work on Monday morning.....and a long way to go before I got my pension! Wink

Re: On a lighter note

@journeys - Where was it that said this was a No. 1? I can't find a record of it any where, and searching this I find nothing, just asking not trying to be awkward. Smiley

@Mook   & @journeys  from Wikipedia

quote

The album first entered the US Billboard 200 at number four,[19] reaching number one in its fourth week in January 1977.[20][17]

Note... it says " The Album.........."

It goes on to say....

The album produced two number one hit singles on the US Billboard Hot 100: "New Kid in Town", on February 26, 1977, and "Hotel California" on May 7, 1977.[27]

Re: On a lighter note

Thanks @shutter, being a US No. 1 would explain why it wasn't found in my search. Wink

Re: On a lighter note

It's a good album there's no doubt, but to be honest it wouldn't be in my to 10 unlike Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

Re: On a lighter note

That's another that has been on my top list since the 70's.
One of the first cd's I bought that one, had it on tape before that.

Re: On a lighter note

Yes, there is music that is decades old that is in the opinion of many; 'timeless', with this being a typical example.

I've worn out my Pink Floyd Pulse double DVD.

Hotel California is on my top 20 of all time list.

Re: On a lighter note

Well I used to like Quintessence! When I was about 14 I heard their 'In blissful company' album from '69 but on listening to it now I suspect it may have been a phase I was going though! It is rather idiosyncratic.

Animals was another of my top Pink Floyd albums, never could get into the wall and later ones.

Re: On a lighter note

Tubular Bells hits the memory spot for me and I can well recall being gobsmacked when I first heard it played live back in the early 70s I think it was on the Old Grey Whistle Test - or something like that.

It was certainly different.

PS. Here we go, just found and playing it now.
