Re: Olympic Torch Route

seems to be going down more roads in a car  than on foot

Essex new city (Chelmsford) route starts at 6:57 on a sat, down three roads, all shopping, no houses, and off in a car to Harlow for 7:57

I see it goes to Stoke Mandeville on July 9th - thankfully my CT scan there is on 10th July  Smiley

Re: Olympic Torch Route

My lad has been asking about this for a while as he’s very keen to see it. We found out over the weekend that his Sea Scout Group have combined their annual Regatta with the arrival of the flame in town so he gets to do boating all day (his favourite hobby) AND see the Olympic Flame….one happy bunny  Smiley

I wonder if this was planned to visit Stoke Mandeville so that Jimmy could have taken part.

Re: Olympic Torch Route

Stoke Mandeville Stadium was location of first paralympic games.
Had he still been with us I've no doubts that Sir Jimmy would have been there. One does see plaques to him in the hospital.

Re: Olympic Torch Route

'Pedantic' not true first Paralympics game was in Rome in 1960. Stoke Mandevilla Games was a precursor to the Paralympics.

Re: Olympic Torch Route

I'd like to see it, but my housemate was nominated (and unsuccessful) to carry the flame, so I think he might object Sad
I don't think I'll plan a visit to Stoke Mandeville on the 9th though!

Re: Olympic Torch Route

You won't see anything.
The police have decided that the torch is to be kettled by a police cordon.

Re: Olympic Torch Route

I must see if I can buy 500 gallons of molasses. I live within 5 mins walk of the route in two different legs. I think the route is carefully chosen to create maximum traffic disruption.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Comes past our lane…………….in a vehicle.
Just curious, for H&S do you think they put the flame out ‘when in convoy’.
