I have just spent a happy half hour looking at old maps

For any old railway buffs out there, this one is quite useful as all the old lines are marked out:

On the matter of railways, I can recommend http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/, although more for the info and photos than for maps.

And for pictures of old railway structures (tunnels, bridges, viaducts), stations and other bits and bobs that BR left scattered around:

The site has a large collection of photos and storys from the old railways with the photos being both past and present - a fascinating way to waste a few hours if you're into that sort of thing.
