Ok clever cloggs

Does an incandescent light bulb "waste" electricity when it is lighting a house with thermostat controlled central heating?
The best answer wins a jpg of a 60W bulb incandescent bulb. Full rules and conditions are on the back of my cellar door.

Re: Ok clever cloggs

Best answer or right answer?  Cool
The answer is no, because if you're using 1 light to light an entire house then it's very energy efficient.

It will make a small contribution to heating the house Undecided

That depends on how efficiently the house is insulated.

Re: Ok clever cloggs

Sorry but I respectfully don't agree.
The contribution will be offered. What the house does with the contribution is another matter. Wink

Wrong.....  Shocked

The bulb WILL contribute to the heating of the house... Grin
The lack of, or efficiency of, the insulation will make no difference to the heat generated by the light bulb  Cheesy

Is it lighting it from the inside or outside?

Re: Ok clever cloggs

if you put the bulb underneath the thermostat, it will make the house colder, but save energy

I'm surprised no one asked whether it is night or day?

Re: Ok clever cloggs

Would this be in relation to ceiling lights or table lamps? since heat rises, you may only be contributing to heating the loft if upstairs ceiling bulbs are left on. Unless you live in a bungalow of course.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Another conundrum for the brain-boxes; take half a glass of hot water, fill it with ice cold water. Does the hot water cool down or the cold water warm up?

Heat flows from the warmer to the cooler until both are the same temperature. IIRC  from my A :Lvel physics many years ago this is under the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
