Numbers count!

Just browsing the US site for Amazon versus that of the UK.
In the customer reviews on the US site when you scroll down to the box with the "Customer Reviews", the number of folk
who give an item a 5/4/3 star rating is displayed as a percentage
as in this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B011HT9AL2?psc=1
yet in the UK the rating is as a number http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tracker-Vehicle-Theft-Protection-System/dp/B00JL8FYUI/ref=pd_cp_23_2?ie=UTF8...
Given that it can be quite challenging for some folk to work out 62% of 983 as opposed to 160 users out of 250
what would be the marketting advantage of using % over numbers.
Not that I am looking for trackers, just showed the differences in the two sites.
