Now this seems a good idea to reduce road closure times after an accident

Police forces in the South West are being given a total of £341,000 for laser scanners to record road collision scenes and help cut road closure times.
The Department for Transport (DfT), which is providing the money, said the 3D scanners would save time by taking quick and detailed images of any scene.
Investigators could then examine images to gather evidence later, it said.

Re: Now this seems a good idea to reduce road closure times after an accident

I was in a discussion back in the summer about the use of LIDAR scanners
This model was under review

Not cheap, but capable of capturing an accident scene in a few minutes.

If it speeds up the re-opening of roads after accidents then it is a good idea.  It will also provide a permanent record that can be reviewed at any time.
Sometimes I think the Police take too long to get traffic moving again.
@shutter, wonder if they read your petition Undecided Undecided

how it works  http://nottinghamcavessurvey.org.uk/laserscanning.htm
Nottingham’s Sandstone Caves The English city of Nottingham has a unique architectural heritage - beneath the city there are nearly 500 man-made caves cut into the natural sandstone. Some date back to the medieval period and possibly even earlier. These caves “constitute a feature of the City that is unique in the national context” (Nottingham Local Plan, 2005:
