Not much impresses me these days but....

On a recent episode of Pointless contestants were ask to name  the works of Shakespeare from their German titles.

Anyone who's studied Shakespeare knows it ain't easy reading and apart from a few quotes and misquotes it's not the language we use today. To be able to read, understand and translate to another language really does takes some doing.

I doff my cap in admiration.....

Felt the same way watching this from the Proms a couple of night ago.

Gives me hope for the future when I see what are to me at least, youngsters playing such truly sublime music from memory.

Like Beethoven, if only my ears were so much better.

I've watched parts of BBC Young Musician of the Year a few times and they really are very good, not just for their age, they wouldn't sound out of place in a professional orchestra.  And what a constructive way to spend their time.

@Champnet

You are so right, fancy trying to work out 'Antonius und Kleopatra'.

Errr, um, no idea Alexander, any chance of a clue?

I jest of course. 😄

Very Impressed by The Last Night of the Proms, especially the performance by stand-in violinist Nicola Benedetti. Could have done with a larger choir but given the current circumstances they did well.

Production was good, night shots of London were spectacular and praise to the owners who lit up their buildings in traditional colours.

Has this justified the license fee ? Considering the cost of watching a West-End performance I think it has.

Bit of a curates egg for me, and not impressed at all by that revamped version of Jerusalem.

What the heck was all that about?

Re: Not much impresses me these days but....

One of my favourite Pointless episodes was when 2 young ladies reached the final.

One of the options on the board was Artists which one of the contestants enthusiastically suggested to her friend as the obvious choice....her friend wasn't so sure but went along with it.

Needless to say the questions were not about recording Artists as the young lady thought but painting artists from many years ago.

I would guess that the mick would be taken at every opportunity by her friends.

I've heard some dire cover versions before, but that one was off the scale.  😮

The older I get, the earlier it gets late.
