Is this the latest scam or gimmick ?
Having purchased a new tyre the other week there was a notice which said for a extra £3 you could have your tyre filled with Nitrogen rather than air.
The claim is that tyres filled with nitrogen will lose the pressure more slowly ? However the pressure will go down over time so it's unlikely you will return to the tyre depot for a top up.

It's not particularly new, Costco Wholesale have used it in their tyre bays for many years. I personally wouldn't pay extra for it, if you have tyres fitted properly to non porous wheels with new valves then they need very little topping up anyway. As for the no moisture or more stable pressure with temperature arguments, I suspect the difference for the most of us is insignificant.

As Baldrick1 said there is nothing new in using nitrogen in car tyres its been used in aircraft and racing car tyres for years but for different reasons as car tyres eg heat
Air is over 78 percent nitrogen, just under 21 percent oxygen anyway so why pay extra .
When my daughter had new tyres fitted she was advised to pay the extra for the nitrogen fill we could not tell any difference she has not paid extra since
My advice don't your waste money just buy better tyres

It's a very similar argument for using/not using distilled water to dilute anti-freeze.

You need to tread carefully, I think his post was well balanced.
Though he may have wandered a bit and lost his bearings.

As a matter of interest, aircraft tyres are always filled with nitrogen, apparently its less explosive if a tyre bursts. Didn't help the Paris Concorde though.
When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.
