Next years holiday sorted yeha!

Just been speaking to a guy from Silver Lining Tours (Tornado Alley storm chasing company based in Texas). My place is booked for next June  Smiley
Also have to praise VOIP (with Vonage) because that is one of the highest quality phonecalls I have ever made.

Grin I have been getting mixed reactions to this, same went I went to New Zealand to jump out of airplanes among other things. I have to say your reaction is the most common.
I just want to live before I die.

Brilliant Sean - I might do it one day. I love a good storm - having been at sea through quite a lot  Cheesy
And some of the worse have been on the Irish sea !!!

Yes, the Irish sea. I remember travelling back from the Isle of Man on a 23ft sailing boat in 1997 and it was insane, especially the mouth of Strangford Lough near where I live!
I have included a couple of photos from 2008 tornado season taken on the same tour I am going on:

Re: Next years holiday sorted yeha!

Quite scary that I had to sign and return 12 pages of legal agreements and waivers before I could be accepted on the tour! Basicaily if I die it is not their problem!

I know what you mean.  I am off to Florida for 5 weeks in September and it is hurricane season.  I have been in many hurricanes and always found them fascinating.  Roll eyes
One year we had 4 big ones while I was there. Exciting times Cool

But why don't the folk in USA build properties to withstand the tornado's better ?

Re: Next years holiday sorted yeha!

Modern houses there typically are timber framed and have chipboard sheets for the walls. The outside has foam insulation panels attached and the exterior is finished with plastic siding. The roofs are covered in asphalt shingles.
So in storm they blow away and when they go on fire they burn to the ground!

Any new build homes have to be built to withstand hurricanes.  A lot of the properties you refer to are older ones which were not built to this standard.  If a property is destroyed any rebuilding has to conform to new standards.  I have been in category 4 hurricanes on a number of occasions and can testify to the ability of new builds to withstand major damage.
