It's tragic what is happening out there. At least a relief operation is already underway and it is hoped aid gets through very soon. The world needs to rally around and do all that is necessary.

Re: New 7.4 mag Earthquake hits Khatmandu

Just seen these stats:
Magnitude: Previously ranked as a 7.4, the quake has now been downgraded to a 7.3 event.
Depth: The depth of the quake is currently sitting at 18.5km. Quite a shallow quake apparently
Intensity of Shaking: Currently ranked (VII) which indicates Very Strong shaking and gives a moderate chance of damage. We'll soon find out.
Expected Fatalities: 100-1,000 (very very early, so hard to tell)
Expected Costs from the Quake (US$): Between $10-100 million
Aftershocks: This is an inland quake. This could be related to the previous 7.8 event this month. Time will tell. Expect roughly a 6.4 event to follow this.
They are having a pretty rough time out there.

why is it tripe.
The best thing for those people is to be reallocated, otherwise they will get continuous misery, humans cannot defeat natural events such as earthquakes.

Re: New 7.4 mag Earthquake hits Khatmandu

simple enough if you have the money, the resources, and the availability of  "somewhere safe from earthquakes"...

for a few million people...

Don`t suppose you have ever suffered like these poor people have, only to be told... it`s your fault... you should have lived somewhere else...
that`s why your post is tripe....  you would have done yourself a bigger favour by not posting anything...

+1 from me...
San Francisco is a beautiful place, nearly 1 million inhabitants, and subject to Earthquakes.
I would live there, even with the constant threat of earthquakes, but of course SF has the advantage of buildings designed to withstand earthquakes.
And that sentiment is echoed by our friends who live in San Francisco.

The main problems with Nepal seems to be that it is a very poor country, lacking in decent infrastructure, earthquake resistant buildings, and is situated in an Earthquake zone.

We have made a sizeable donation to the Disaster Relief Fund.

No mention of any "authorities"  "charities"... etc.....etc...

You made a stupid statement. and you should accept that..... it was insulting to those poor people ... and the emphasis is on poor.. as in haven`t got any money, or resources.... apart from the misery their life is now,.... and will be for years to come, long after the news media have disappeared... and the charities find some other place that needs their money/help/support, more than the current situation...
#Checking on my second linky........ there have been 122 earthquakes today... and its only 07;30 g.m.t......... and a big one in japan

The biggest earthquake:
today: 6.8 in Ofunato, Iwate, Japan

so I suppose you will now suggest the japanese all move somewhere else as well ?
