Hedges, pyracantha, forsythia, box and maybe a bit of privet we need a robust electric or maybe a petrol trimmer that is able to cut through a wide range of stuff with some thick and fine as you can imagine, but i can't decide. Anybody bought a good trimmer of late?

Re: Need a new hedge trimmer

I have this one - does everything I want and is great for a high hedge as you don't need a ladder
http://www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Products/01478/KombiSystem.aspx with one of these http://www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Products/KombiSystem/KombiTools/21173-1482/KM-HL-135.aspx
It should be added that I have a lot more hedges than you and they include a so called country  hedge and a very large Laurel tree/bush and also  did include a socking great Leylandii hedge which fortunately is no longer there

Interesting http://www.amazon.co.uk/TRUESHOPPING%C2%AE-GARDENERX5-PETROL-FUNCTION-INCLUDING/dp/B004X9TTJC/ref=sr...
I could certainly use a brush cutter and a chain saw.

Re: Need a new hedge trimmer

Last week I purchased a Eckman Lightweight 9ft 2 1/4in Long Reach Telescopic Hedge Trimmer, Electric model but they also have a petrol version.
Fortunately I only have a small area that requires trimming at this height and this does the job however I could not recommend it if you are looking to use it for more than 15 minutes, described as lightweight it's anything but lightweight and feedback on this product indicates many other people feel the same way.
2 Stroke petrol versions of hedge trimmers have a lot more power than the electric versions but can be difficult to start at times.

Re: Need a new hedge trimmer

We have a guy re-laying the hedge in our orchard. £12 a metre. We bought the field last year and found it had not been looked after for at least 10 years.  It is a lot cheaper if you look after your hedge.

Re: Need a new hedge trimmer

@Oldjim, Proper Man-Tool... but out of my price range.
@Strat, this looks like something that would be used on a film set, Scareface springs to mind, I can't see it being of much use past 3 goes  Grin

Re: Need a new hedge trimmer

Try these: http://www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Products/0600/Hedge-trimmers-and-long-reach-hedge-trimmers.aspx
They are pricier, but you can get parts and servicing in the future.

Re: Need a new hedge trimmer

Cheers AlaricAdair, I was looking at the electric range fron Stihl yesterday and i have narrowed it down to just 2 now.
So my options are...
http://www.stihl.co.uk/STIHL-Products/Hedge-trimmers-and-long-reach-hedge-trimmers/Electric-hedge-tr...
Or
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-Pro-T-Electric-Hedgecutter-Capacity/dp/B001P3NV5C
Do we spend the extra and buy the obvious choice? Petrol will just get on my chest and annoy the neighbours. as for weight, who cares!

Re: Need a new hedge trimmer

ps. Don't pay list price for Stihl -  it's almost impossible not to get a discount.
