National Lottery Direct Debit changes

Just received an email about changes to the rules regarding Direct Debit subscriptions.
[quote=National Lottery]Currently, if we make significant changes to games (for example the price of the game), you are required to confirm that you are happy to continue with your Direct Debit. However, when the website is updated, this will no longer be the case. Going forward, if and when we make any changes to our games, we will notify you in advance of any such changes and you will be given the opportunity to cancel or amend your Direct Debit. If you take no action, we will amend your Direct Debit for you (including by taking additional money, if required) and continue to enter your existing play slips into future draws once the changes come into effect.
So, if they change the price of a game but you didn't receive or didn't notice the email you'll automatically pay the higher price if you do nothing. This seems wrong to me.
Perhaps too many people cancelled or reduced their DD payments at the last change - just like I did.

Re: National Lottery Direct Debit changes

Same here, at the point the price went up I had 1 lucky dip for each Lotto draw, so rather than double the money or halve the draws I just cancelled and used some of the money to have the odd bet on the F1 and the World Cup. Already done better out of the World Cup (£12.50 up and a bit more hopefully from a cashback site) than the last year of Lottery tickets.

Makes me wonder what further changes they are planning!

Re: National Lottery Direct Debit changes

This was the other change in the same notification:
Quote
Changes to refunds
If you cancel your Direct Debit or delete a play slip after we have started to collect your payment, you will no longer receive a full or partial refund for that payment. Your play slips will be entered into the draw and your cancellation will come into effect once the pending payment has been used to buy your play slips.

Re: National Lottery Direct Debit changes

Glad I stopped doing the lottery and went for premium bonds instead.
I wonder what the actual ticket sales numbers are?

Re: National Lottery Direct Debit changes

Strange you mention Premium Bonds.
When NL increased their prices last year I reduced my subscription to one line on a Saturday then gradually saved up and since bought 3 x £50 bonds. In 54 years still not won a been on the Premium Bonds but have won 3 x £25 since the NL increase  Cheesy
