NOW TV, using the NOW TV box as a Portable Battery powered source with TV

I now have my NOW TV 3rd box, to use as a Portable Battery powered source with TV.
For watching, or selecting Radio station then turn off monitor, just speakers on, with Now TV Box.
Everything battery powered in a suitable box.
The 12v 4.3" monitor arrived Saturday, so now my weekend project is ready, I have all the bits.
(Only took 2 days to arrive, from Manchester, I always go for a local supplier on Amazon, if I can)
Battery power for router, battery supply for NOW TV Box, battery supply for Monitor, headphones / battery powered speakers.
Should all fit in a small box, approx 6" cube.
The audio output via the 4 pole 3.5mm socket is powerful enough to directly drive Stereo headphones at a reasonable level, I tried 2 types
Ideal for Radio.

Testing, Testing, Testing 1,2,3
NOW TV Box    2.5mm DC Socket
4x NiMh  =  5.3v  @ 170ma = 12 hours RT approx
4.3" TFT TV      2.1mm DC Socket
8 x NiMh  = 10.3v  @ 160ma = 12 hours RT approx
8 x Alkaline = 12v  @ 130ma = 20 hours RT approx
RT hours based on AA Alkaline capacity of 2,800mah, AA NiMh capacity of 2,000mah
Router run off AA Alkaline 12v = 12 hours RT approx
All voltages as measured, NiMh recently charged.
Conclusion,
a totally battery powered portable NOW TV, TV, WiFi Router with Headphones / battery powered Speaker gives around 12 hours continuous Run Time  (RT),
more than long enough for any Power Cuts I have had, or for wandering about outside, around the gardens !!
Which is specifically what I bought the extra NOW TV Box for.
My FM and DAB Radio signals are poor, being in the middle of nowhere, and surrounded by trees.
Freeview Digital TV signal can be patchy at times, depending on the Weather.

( 3x AA Alkaline for NOW TV box, not enough volts @ 4.6v.  Supplied PSU gives 5.1v, so I didn't try 4x AA Alkaline = 6v )

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Testing, Testing, Testing 4,5,6
Here's the Sunday Morning Test Rig
For measuring actual RT's

Re: NOW TV, using the NOW TV box as a Portable Battery powered source with TV

Update at 12 noon, 3 hours Run Time so far
Initial NiMh Voltages at 9am
NOW TV  5.40v
Portable TV 11.82v
3 hours RT, Voltages at 12 Noon
NOW TV  4.99v
Portable TV 9.78v
Both items are warm to the touch, and have been throughout, batteries not warm at all.
At 3 hours, the NOW TV Box went into Standby, one click and it was back with the SKY News Live Feed.
(All NiMh batteries charged yesterday)

NOW TV  5.40v
Portable TV 11.82v

Re: NOW TV, using the NOW TV box as a Portable Battery powered source with TV

Update at 6pm, 9 hours Run Time so far
Initial NiMh Voltages at 9am, under load
NOW TV  5.40v
Portable TV 11.82v

9 hours RT, Voltages at 6pm, under load

NOW TV  4.25v
Portable TV 9.09v

12 hours calculated Run Time looking less likely now.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
UPDATE:
NOW TV Box is now shutting down, after 9 hours continuous on the four NiMh batteries.
I've replaced the NiMh's for newly charged ones, to complete the test run, for the TV Run Time.
Initial voltage on the replacement NiMh's is again 5.40v.. under load.
The TV lasted just one more hour.
So in conclusion, I now have a portable, battery powered NOW TV Box with TV for 9 hours uninterrupted viewing, or listening, for the next Power Cut, or just a long walk in the Gardens.

And... after all that, it's Battery Charging time..
Note the string around the batteries, for ease of release.

I would remind you of this Forum Rule
Quote
Bumping of posts
"Bumping" is the act of adding to a thread just to get your topic back to the top of the list in a forum and should not be done.
Users who keep bumping their topics face action that may include the locking of the topic and / or removal of forum access.
You could quite easily have edited the first post to add the extra information

I can assure you that "Bumping" was NOT the intention.
The first post was very long, with a lot of information, and so to make the process easier to read, I decided to split it into 3 hourly sections.
It just so happens, no-one else contributed in the 7 hours since the first post.
I hope the many readers found the thread informative.

Thank you for pointing this out.

Re: NOW TV, using the NOW TV box as a Portable Battery powered source with TV

I did a WiFi range test yesterday.
First of all I checked what I could receive on my iMac, using iStumbler
On the grab below, my WiFi router is underlined in Red.
The signal strength on my iMac shows FULL Signal Strength Bars from my Router, located on a different floor at home.
The furthest router I could find, and access, though password protected is underlined in Blue.
A postcode search showed this to be 150 yards away from my iMac.!!

Armed with this knowledge, in between heavy showers, I did a walking distance test from my Technicolor router to the portable NOW TV Setup described above.
On the same side of the property as my Router, I received a good strong WiFi signal on the portable  Setup, and went for a walk.
I managed about 30 yards in a direct line, before I got picture break-ups and buffering.
On the other side of the property, away from the router, the range was more limited, at around 20 yards.
Both were obtained with no intervening obstructions, open gardens, within the tree line.

Re: NOW TV, using the NOW TV box as a Portable Battery powered source with TV

That's a new one on me, I had to Google the term Comment Spamming.
Just one of many search results, all indicating basically the same
"In search engine optimization (SEO) terminology it is any comment that has been posted
for the purpose of generating an Inbound link to the comment author's own site."
I see no reference to any links in this thread. ...

I'm afraid I totally disagree with you on this.
This is specific additional information, performed days later, and as such is not just an update, but extra new content, on a new procedure.
Yet there are no links, which is what I understand CS is.

Not one post of mine, ever, has linked back to any personal website of mine, or any of my  Businesses.

Please explain "all the time"

You raise this on a public forum, so I answer via the same route.
