NHS Superb Service

Made an online appointment overnight Thursday to see GP, one available next morning 9am, swollen foot.

In with him at 9am Friday

Nothing obvious, but just in case it was DVT, he rang Vascular Department at local hospital in my presence, for a scan

No waiting, Scan at 11am, lots of leg squeezing, pretty colours on screen.

No Blood Clots, nothing else to worry about, I was out by 11:10am, didn't even have to pay Car Park fee, as I was less than 30 minutes.

Excellent Service.

Swelling much reduced today, Saturday, after resting.

Re: NHS Superb Service

Excellent !

You are not a MP or have some sort of title have you ?

I had never thought of moving but might consider a move to where you live just to get a service like that.

Hope your foot gets better soon.... be careful what you kick in future.

Re: NHS Superb Service

I think I can beat that....  went to doc.... doc investigated... said ... need surgery.... booked consultant... three days later,.letter arrived. ... saw consultant... three day later letter arrived, giving me an appointment for day surgery, in 7 days time... on the day... arrive at hospital day surgery unit.... 0730... saw the trainee nurse, and sister, saw the anaethetist and the surgeon, all paperwork completed by 0830.. walked into pre - op .... and woke up in recovery at 1030. "would you like a cup of tea and some toast?"   "yes please... let thetoast get cold before buttering it, please"... and so it was delivered  5 mins later... 11 oclock... discharged... and home for lunch at 1130..

excellent...

I was so pleased and impressed with everyone who dealt with me on that day, that I wrote a letter to the Day Surgery unit to say "Thankyou" to them all...  and I added in the comment..

"I enjoyed it so much... I would go around again .."

2 weeks down the line, and I am in fine fettle...better than I have been for years and years and years and years  ! .

Re: NHS Superb Service

Hmmmmphhh

Had an appointment on 14 October with a specialist and a call was made while there to see a consultant on 16th November. On 16th November turned up for appointment to find that whoever took the call on the 14th had failed to put the details in the consultant's diary. Almost one month on and I am still waiting...

This is an ongoing issue since I was discharged from hospital last September. Am now thinking of writing to my MP!

Re: NHS Superb Service

It's certainly unusual if not to say unique being dealt with so quickly.

On my last visit I needed to have one of my lugholes cleaned out and had to wait seven months for a hospital appointment because the local medical centre was not up to the job. The only time a doctor got on the phone immediately on my behalf to anybody was when I asked and was willing to pay for a private specialist - and even then I had to wait several days.

Re: NHS Superb Service

The current GP I have is pretty amazing, appointments next or even same-day, he listens properly, and gets things done quickly... Smiley

Previous GP (back in lancashire) though, well, lucky to get an appointment within 2 weeks, assuming he was actually in the country (in which case the locums took over (and did a far better job!!)), didn't listen, didn't get the job done, referrals, well, let's just say 10 years on I'm still waiting for a referral for counselling (no longer required anyway) from him, just a complete wast of NHS funds...

Received an appointment for an AAA screening last week, having been given a choice of dates at various locations.

I chose one at my excellent large local Hospital, on a Saturday (done 3 monthly)

Appointment was for 9am, I arrived early at 8:40am, having allowed for traffic.

The Senior Nurse (who had setup the whole local screening) spotted me, did the ultrasound screening straight away....

I was out before my appointed time !!

(AAA Abdominal Aortic Aneurism)

No contra-indications.

Aorta was normal 1.6cms across, as nothing was found, there is no need for any further screening at all.

No one at the medical centre up to the job of syringing your ear(s) out ?

If they are unable to do that just hope you do not need them for something serious !

Re: NHS Superb Service

I was told that the surgery nurse was 'not confident' of syringing my ear because of my age - I'm nearly seventy so....

Re: NHS Superb Service

Many clinics will not syringe/wash out ears because there a significant risk of damage to the ear drum if the procedure is done incorrectly.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
