Petlew has the workshop manual so UK should be OK for maintenance, just needs a shuttle to go with it

Petlew has the workshop manual

Right on! could strip it down, reassemble it and have enough left over to make a wrist watch...and all with a mole wrench and a sonic screwdriver!!
Er! is that cross posting in flagrant disregard of forum rules?
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: NASA Space Shuttle Homes

It's not cheap for the locations that won the bids:

Quote
Each winning location has to fork over $28.8 million to NASA for delivery of the vehicles. They also must guarantee a climate-controlled building will be constructed to house their shuttle. That's still a bargain, officials at the bidding locations said, because of the return on investment they expect.

Re: NASA Space Shuttle Homes

Whats with the climate controlled building then?
The shuttle is exposed to all sorts of climates both down here, up there and on its way between both so why does it need to be kept in a climate controlled building when NASA no longer intend to use them ever again?
Sure, if they wanted to keep them floating around just in case, i could understand this but they're retiring the entire fleet.

Re: NASA Space Shuttle Homes

I'm not sure that it was a true bidding situation.  I think NASA was simply looking for a sign of good faith that the winning cities could afford to provide the necessary facilities to house the shuttles.
Houston is very upset they lost out.  Didn't take the news well and suggested there was politics involved.
