Music Suggestions

Can anyone recommend any decent bands, something with an edge, not usually mainstream, I'm into most genres, as long as the music is challenging or different in some way.
Just to give some examples, so you get a better idea of what I mean: King Crimson (early years), Alex Harvey, Mike Patton, Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac (Peter Green years), Pink Fairies, etc.
Basically, just looking for something new to get into, preferably experimental music, rock, or created by exceptional musical talent.
Please post you suggestions, thanks  Wink

Re: Music Suggestions

How intriguing - never heard of a number of the bands/soloists named above.
Love the Pink Fairies though (the name, that is - listened on Spotify and not impressed).
In my day we used to like people like Georgie Fame who is, I understand, still very well respected in the musical world.
We were also very keen on all the Tamla Motown artists - Marvin Gaye etc, and, of course, The Rolling Stones and all the Liverpool groups. Possibly a bit tame to the modern young person's ear though.
Sometimes I find Indian/Asian music, particular the Sitar, quite interesting and rhythmic.
This one, which I have on Spotify, always gets my toes tapping:
Mustt Mustt (Massive Attack Remix)  -  Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Re: Music Suggestions

Beatles, Genesis, Fleetwood Mac, The Seekers, Swinging  Blue Jeans, a good Male Voice Choir,  orchestra or opera singer - I have very mixed tastes in music............... so consider everything worth listening too even if afterwards I would not listen to it again!

How about African? I know a lovely album of rhythmic piano and kora music - the kora being an African plucked strings instrument, a bit like the sitar is to India. It's very laid-back so perhaps not what you had in mind in your quote above, but if you're interested in listening to samples of it, I've tracked some down on Amazon US.

Re: Music Suggestions

Going back a while but how about   Bix Beiderbecke:-  something like

There used to be a TV series, Sunday evening that featured "Missing records of Bix Beiderbecke", with his Cornet playing as background.
Just cannot remember what it was called, was on BBC1
