Movie sequels

Just watched The Hills have eyes 2. Yet another sequel that is nothing but absolute rubbish compared with the original and the remake of the original! Any thoughts?
Personally I think the worst sequal, and one that should never have been made, is Terminator 3! Anyone agree?

Re: Movie sequels

As a slight variation on your theme - how about sequels you would have loved to have been made or updated to the modern vogue (your interpretation)?
e.g. Mary Poppins Rides Again where Mary Poppins comes back ten yers later as a mad axe murderer. Smiley
Chiity Chiity Bang Bang - running on lead-free petrol and with air con.

Re: Movie sequels

I think Weird Al said it best in 'UHF' Ghandi II, This time it's no more Mr Pacifist.
There IS one sequel that was as good as the first if not better. Predator-2. I loved that film.

Re: Movie sequels

Thought the first two were brilliant.  Can't wait to go and see the third.

Re: Movie sequels

Agree with some posted, and a few of my own too: -
Terminator - great film
Terminator 2 - a great follow up
Terminator 3 - should have quit while they were ahead.

Pitch Black - what a great film - edgy and exciting
Chronicles of Riddick - what a complete waste of time.

Alien - Great film - never know what's coming next
Aliens - another great film - you know what's coming next, but it's still exciting
Alien 3 - Ok, getting silly now
Alien Resurrection - complete waste of film.

Predator - good film, would have been good with or without Arnie
Predator 2 - Even better
(and to tie in with the above)
Alien Vs Predator - Why bother. Just an excuse to try and squeeze more money out of a tentative link between the two films because in the Predator 2 movie there was an alien queen's skill on display and it was a cool game (played it myself on the Atari Jaguar - still got it somewhere).

Dusk till dawn - I first watched this shortly after watching Pulp Fiction, and it looked to be a great gangster movie, then - wow, what, eh? Vampires - cool
Dusk till dawn 2, 3 and wherever they got to now - don't even go there...

Re: Movie sequels

Just thought of an exception to the rule. Saw 1-3 were all very good.

Re: Movie sequels

Police Academy- fairly silly but watchable.
Police Academy 2, 3, 4, 5 etc (how many were there?) all dire.

Re: Movie sequels

Felt that 28 weeks later was horribly predictable.

YAY! Someone else that remembers UHF!!! heheheh.
Back to the Future 2 rocked.  28 weeks later was a cracking film!  I disagree with Predator 2 being good.  I couldn't enjoy it.
Dusk til dawn 2 & 3, awful awful.  If only I could sue to get the 4 hours of my life back.
OOOOH!  The Blair Witch Project!!  1&2, Terrible, overhyped rubbish.
Looking forward to the Rob Zonbie remake of Halloween though, I just hope that he doesn't "butcher" it.  Heh.  See what I did there?

Re: Movie sequels

American Pie 1, 2 and 3 - getting better each time.  This one time...
Van Sant's Psycho remake - scene by scene identical remake... the question is "why bother?"
Superman 3 - Why...
Superman 4 - Oh Why
