Morrisons Chunky Steak Pie price hike ! !

We have been buying Morrisons Chunky Steak Pies, for a few years now..... last year, they were 80p each... or £1.50 for two...

earlier this year, they went up to £1.00 each...

Last week.... they were 50p each  ! ! !      so we bought double the normal amount ! ! ! ( bargain! ! ).

Today... £1.25 each...ShockedShocked

Where is the logic, in that kind of retail pricing structure  ? ? ?

The pies are pretty popular at 80p or £1.00  are really tasty and good value for money.. Grin (chomping on pie).....

Yeah,... I can see the logic of dropping the price for a promotion, to INCREASE sales...

but to follow that up with  a PRICE HIKE  (150%  ? ? ??   )   to £1.25 the following week, is absolutely batty ! !.. so this week... the sales will drop dramatically..

.

be interesting to see what price they are next week....

It'll be a POS algorithm. Because you bought double the usual quantity the sales have increase generating an automatic price increase. Ignoring the special offer the actual increase is 25% and we all know who's fault that is...............

We buy 20 bags of coffee beans at a time, but I have noticed in the intervening weeks the price increases then comes down to the same level we buy them at.

Now if what you say is correct @Champnet I apologies to all Sainsbury’s customers for the price fluctuation on their Columbian beans. Embarrassed

Can you eat one of those pies if you're not chunky? Roll_eyes

Not a fan any more of pies with chunks of meat in m'self as I've had more than one with chunks of fat or gristle in them so I tend to buy those with minced beef. Still eating that fat and gristle of course but out of sight, out of mind, and try not to think about it.

Used to love those Fray Bentos tinned pies at one time, but gave those up as well for the same reason which was a shame as they were really tasty.

I didn't know until recently that Fray Bentos is a city in Uruguay, just north of Buenos Aires.

From the top 10 things to do in Uruguay

10. Fray Bentos

"A visit to Fray Bentos is actually a fascinating day out – their museum of the industrial revolution gives visitors an insightful perspective on the industrialisation of this part of Uruguay. And after the tour, there are delicious pies to sample.

The best time to visit? History and pies are good at any time of the year."

Some of the pies you see these days have more pastry than the content !

A pub near us does fantastic steak pies, other stuff on the menu but never tried anything else....always go for the steak pie.....

and of course the chips.

@Champnet

Probably best to avoid the really antique pies in the museum though. I've heard they are a bit ripe! Shocked

If you're ever near Filey, call into this place...  http://thepiebaldinn.co.uk

Scroll down to the bottom for the pie menu, dozens and dozens of them.

If you visit the same hotel for the same dates several times on Expedia you may find you’re increasing the price.

Classic supply & demand....

This is where I was taken out for my 40 years service award if you want a steak pie

Before anyone asks I did not eat all the pie but two members of the staff did

Its only a short distance from J9 of the M6 has a large free car park

Pastry and gravy.

I remember when Birdeye brought out their chicken pies. If you compared one of those to today's efforts..................

The problem is you can say that about most foody and sweet things.

Actually, the quality of Morrisons Chunky Steak in the pies, is very very good... the gravy is tasty too, and the pastry is proper "shortcrust"  not that  horrible flaky pastry, like on pukka pies !..

A couple of years ago, I used to have one of those pies for my evening meal, EVERY night !... for a year, and only once had a gristly bit.
