Re: Morrisinghs

I seem to remember Selfridges took umbrage at a shop called Sell Fridges some years back and got them to change their name to We Sell Fridges. Couldn't find a link, though.

rather than morrisons being nice, i have a feeling they saw it as a perfect PR opportunity to get one over on sainburys.

i fully suspect that if it was the opposite way round then morrisons would have taken action against them.

Re: Morrisinghs

I seem to recall that creative spelling of Google was taken from the Googol which represented some mega large number?

Maybe the originator should sue them, I'm sure they can just about to afford it!

Re: Morrisinghs

A googol is 1 with 100 noughts after it.  You may remember it was the £1 mill. question on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but the winner was disqualified since he relied almost entirely on his more knowledgeable accomplice coughing at the wrong answers.  Apparently Google was supposed to be called Googol but its founders misspelt it.

There used to be a Harrods in Buenos Aires, originally licensed by the original, but the typeface used was unrecognisably different (possibly a change forced upon them when they lost their link with Knightsbridge).  I think I still have one of their carrier bags.

Re: Morrisinghs

I remember watching a documentary about the case; the music etc. had been removed and the coughs were clearly audible.

It could have been worse, for example ... "Weasel Fridges"

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Morrisinghs

So if u buy an energy-efficient fridge from a man in the pub, you are buying green white goods on the black market.
