Re: Monarch Airlines gone belly upwards

I"m surprised it's taken so long for a thread to appear on this.

We flew out to the Algarve with them yesterday, phew! At least we got here, unlike the poor people who got to the airport this morning. Now all I have to do is arrange a flight back in 3 weeks!  On the other hand it"s sunny and warm here, http://www.ipma.pt/pt/otempo/prev.localidade.hora/#Faro&Lagos maybe we'll just stay...

Re: Monarch Airlines gone belly upwards

Shame they have gone out of business, they were a good airline.

I suspect the rest will put up prices

Re: Monarch Airlines gone belly upwards

Well with less competition now, they can. So I think you're right.

I flew with them once, I think it was the first flight I had to Orlando, Florida.

@MisterW Hope you get back OK, last thing when you want on a holiday is worrying how to get back.

Re: Monarch Airlines gone belly upwards

I remember 20+ years ago going on a tour of the Monarch maintenance base at Luton airport as part of a college course - it was a very interesting day out.

Re: Monarch Airlines gone belly upwards

@Alex thanks for your thoughts. I've managed to book flights back, not quite to the same airport but not too inconvenient.

I expect all the other companies are.

Probably got their eyes on a few cheap planes as well.

Re: Monarch Airlines gone belly upwards

Shame there all Airbus aircraft as that puts Ryanair out of the picture.

The only Boeing aircraft Monarch use is on lease from another airline.

There is a large fleet replacement order Monarch placed with Boeing that was due to start being delivered next year.

From that link ( which is the one I read, too ! )...

EasyJet is set to hold a recruitment day for Monarch staff

and Ryanair will be eyeing pilots to deal with its own cancellation crisis.
