Mobile phone home booster?

Any suggestions for a legal way to boost signal strength of mobile phone
in a low signal area in Dorset? We do not get any signal at all!

Re: Mobile phone home booster?

Those shiny stickers are just that, shiny stickers, they're nothing more than snake oil and will do nothing for boosting a phone's signal reception...
Unless you're prepared to fork out a lot of money for an actual amplifier, the only other option is plugging in an external roof or attic-mounted antenna into the phone (assuming it has an external antenna port), or find higher ground, whichever's easiest...

Re: Mobile phone home booster?

Since moving to our current house over 4 years ago I have moaned about the poor signal quality. Most of the time there was signal at all. Occasionally I'd get enough signal to receive texts but voice calls were useless as I could barely hear the caller and they couldn't hear me. Since a couple of weeks ago the signal has been excellent with no problems with sending/receiving calls. Not sure what has changed Undecided

Re: Mobile phone home booster?

Or skip the DS forum and go straight to here:

I thought about those things, but, they require shelling out money, aswell as having to register this that and the other, and at the end of the day, it's not boosting signal, it's just stealing bandwidth off your home internet connection, and the operator ain't refunding you for the use of it when they can't be bothered to maintain or upgrade their networks in rural areas, and in rural areas, it just so happens the same issue affects broadband, so, they're not really that much good... Re: Mobile phone home booster?

If you have a reasonable broadband connection and suitable phone , and are with or willing to move to 02 or Three, then TuGo (have used since first came out , works great for me) or Thee InTouch, allow for calls and text over wifi
Both apps are free .

Re: Mobile phone home booster?

Shame that three's inTouch doesn't work outside the UK, that'd have been quite a useful feature, but I guess there's too much profit to be made with international roaming...

Re: Mobile phone home booster?

That is a shame , although TuGo can be used from any wifi connection, worldwide

Re: Mobile phone home booster?

contact your phone company and offer to have them mount a mobile booster unit on the outside of your property
Vodafone already have done this for one village http://www.westerndailypress.co.uk/Mobile-internet-notspots-history-rural-3G-roll/story-21747447-det... giving them mobile signal for the first time ever
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Re: Mobile phone home booster?

Generally speaking it is illegal to use mobile phone boosters unless the equipment is supplied by the mobile phone company. Get it wrong and you can mess up the calls to many people in the area.
Most mobile phone companies will supply these devices if you complain about unacceptable reception conditions.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
