in a low signal area in Dorset? We do not get any signal at all!

Unless you're prepared to fork out a lot of money for an actual amplifier, the only other option is plugging in an external roof or attic-mounted antenna into the phone (assuming it has an external antenna port), or find higher ground, whichever's easiest...

I thought about those things, but, they require shelling out money, aswell as having to register this that and the other, and at the end of the day, it's not boosting signal, it's just stealing bandwidth off your home internet connection, and the operator ain't refunding you for the use of it when they can't be bothered to maintain or upgrade their networks in rural areas, and in rural areas, it just so happens the same issue affects broadband, so, they're not really that much good...

Most mobile phone companies will supply these devices if you complain about unacceptable reception conditions.
