Mine`s bigger than yours, Boris !

Virgin Voyages flagship Scarlet Lady paid a brief visit to Portsmouth yesterday...  (unfortunately, it came in too early for me to get pics and left later the same day)

It is BIGGER than H.M.S. QUEEN ELIZABETH... (and H.M.S. Prince of Wales)

Don`t bother watching the video... it`s useless...

It's certainly a big ship.  But the side view looks a bit on the plain side.

It's almost looks like a container ship stacked full of containers.

That's for when it gets re-purposed.

That's not a ship, it's a floating block of flats... and just as ugly.

I'd be glad to see the back if it m'self, and preferably sailing off into the sunset never to return.

Re: Mine`s bigger than yours, Boris !

For a man who was pleading with the UK government to rescue him and rebuild his paradise island a few years ago, he certainly seems to have a lot of money going spare if he can afford to build that bloody great big thing.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Love them or loathe them - they're extremely environment-unfriendly.  Sad

My council has various car restrictions in the city centre and is always banging on about their future environmental plans and their fleet of electric vehicles bought with hard earned tax payers money but..........

They never have much to say when it's pointed out to them, that the cruise liners they seem to dote over, churn out more pollution than all the city centre cars put together when docked nearby.

Money rules I guess @billnotben as when these beasts disgorge their passengers it's good news for local business and gawd only knows how much those port fees are, but you can bet your life it's not to be sneezed at by a local council.

Re: Mine`s bigger than yours, Boris !

I agree with you on that but the council totally fails, or wants, to understand that all the cars they are "discouraging" from the town centre would also have brought in a lot of business for local shops.

Unless my memory is playing tricks I seem to remember most of the furore on this stemmed from a pollution test done when a couple of cruise ships were docked which showed a more than noticeable jump.

I think most of us has seen pictures of these ships docked and surrounded by a grey cloud. I believe what was said there is hardly anywhere that is capable of supplying enough power to run these ships docked. I expect there is also a case that the owner probably finds it miles cheaper to use their own generators even if there was a choice.
