Mind Boggling Waste of money

The Arabs had a party last night, to celebrate the new resort in Dubai completion.
Fantastic as the place may be, it`s design, it`s concept, and the logistical and constructional problems that have been overcome to build this place.
I think it is absolutely disgusting the amount of money that went up in smoke on the fireworks, (let alone the actual party) when their neighbours are screaming out for help and assistance with their poverty stricken families, and ineffective governments. No wonder the Somali`s have taken to Piracy.
Oh by the way, don`t forget to send some money, however little, to the current appeal for help,
and the dogs for christmas
, and the adpot a tiger campaign,
and save the children,
and..........

Couldn't agree more Shutter, they have two much money which is why they can drop billions into western banks without batting an eyelid.
There was an interesting documentary about that a while ago on the BBC money progeamme.
Trouble is they cant spend it at home otherwise inflation would go through the roof, they are too selfish to help genuinely needy countries and causes and are just plain obsessed with wealth.
Think thats a waste look at this...http://www.blackcardsource.com/mastercard-is-at-it-again/, for the sheikh who has everything
I've started to keep an eye on the major financial institutions since the start of the credit crunch which is how I found that.

So what do you do when you have all of the World's money sloshing around in your pocket? Go burn it of course. Literally. But wait. With oil crashing to less than $50 a barrel, even Opec Princes and Russian Gangsters will be feeling the chilly winds of 'fuel poverty'. Sadly though, Gordon (saviour of the know universe and more some) Brown will still be feeling the warm glow of his over-priced and over-taxed utilities.

The thought of buying an island, couple of generators, water purification equipment, comms equipment and organising a weekly shipment from Tescos appeals greatly.
No tax or yobs, no problem.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/constructionandproperty/3489393/Dubais-Palm-Jumeirah...
"Dubai's Palm Jumeirah sees prices fall as crunch moves in
Property prices on the Palm Jumeirah, the island in Dubai that has been dubbed the ‘eighth wonder of the world’, have plummeted by as much as 40pc since September amid fears that the global credit crisis is stalling the emirate’s economy.....
When work started on the Palm in 2001, the villas were snapped up for as much as £5m each and sold to buyers including footballer David Beckham and racing driver Michael Schumacher. In the following hype surrounding the island, nearly a quarter of the villas were sold to British buyers"
Suppose we should feel really sorry for David, Michael etc losing £2 million on their properties!

Re: Mind Boggling Waste of money

I worked for an Arab once and his job was to spend money for oil sheiks they would give him some petty cash like a couple of million each and his job was to find companies with a good product. They would buy out the firm and look for things to patent so when the oil ran out they could use all these things to make money.
He bought a country estate Bostock Hall at winsford and they bought out a load speaker company. They had a sheik over who ordered a hi fi unit  the bought priceless furniture  to house the speakers and they had built speakers for ever range of the human ear. The made the speakers for him and to wind the coils for them they needed a machine. Next minute a helicopter came carrying a machine which could do a thousands  coils and hour all for this one hi fi.
The boss had to sign the monthly salary checks and if he was in Dubai someone had to go out there just to get his signature and then come back.
You couldnt get small things off him if you wanted a gallon of petrol you couldnt get it ask for a tanker full no problem. When he came over he loved fish and chips and he never carried anything less than a 50 pound note so he would send you for chips and say keep the change
