Middlesbrough unity demo will oppose racist EDL, Sat 9 July

Hi All
Just seen this:

Middlesbrough unity demo will oppose racist EDL, Sat 9 July
Antifascists in Middlesbrough are organising a unity demonstration to show their opposition to the racists and fascists of the English Defence League on Saturday 9 July.
The EDL is coming to Middlesbrough in a bid to stir up racist hatred against Muslims as part of a ‘summer of hate’.
UAF has organised a unity demonstration to show the racist and fascist thugs of the EDL are not welcome in Middlesbrough.
People in the area know what the EDL’s racism and violence means – EDL thugs attacked the Jamia mosque in Darlington last month, and a mosque in Sunderland has also been attacked.
The unity demo is backed by local Labour councillors, Middlebrough and Cleveland Lib Dems, local Muslim organisations and other campaigners.
MP speaks out
Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Tom Blenkinsop has also spoken out against the EDL and urged local people to show their opposition to the racists’ planned march.
He told the Northern Echo newspaper the EDL should get out of town.

Recently, Darlington has witnessed the result of their hatred and a mosque in Sunderland has been attacked. This activity is not welcome and the EDL should go immediately!
The EDL’s presence has recently been growing in and around Middlesbrough.
This is not Middlesbrough-grown and I ask all the preachers of hate to get out of our town. Middlesbrough was founded on the hard work of immigrants and is still home to many races.

A parliamentary Early Day Motion tabled by the MP condemns the EDL’s proposed march and:

calls on all the communities in Middlesbrough to join together in showing solidarity and opposition to this march

Details
The antiracist event will assemble at 11am at the Cenotaph, next to the main entrace to Albert Park.

The English Defence League can keep out of Middlesbrough.

Is Hazel Pearson still on Middlesbrough council?

Am surprised she would allow it. Very forthright lady.
