Microwave light bulb

Both the Panasonic Microwave and the Whirlpool oven bulbs have died this week.
Checked the oven bulb. Just a small window to remove via a couple of screws. Standard oven bulb...no problem.
Next the Microwave. I can see the bulb but there is no apparent access to it.
Out with the manual and can't believe it I have to get a service engineer out to change it. Shocked
A service engineer to change a light bulb......are you taking the [Censored].
No way.

Re: Microwave lightb bulb

It's not that old but I would guess the bulb wouldn't be covered in a warranty.
No..the cover's coming off as I can probably buy a genuine Panasonic part if needs be.

Why not buy a torch, so you can check that your meal is rotating?

Re: Microwave lightb bulb

I had the same problem with my Sharp microwave - £30 microwave and needs an £80 engineer callout.
Took the outer cover off anyway and found it's a somewhat non-standard bulb, with a small metal bracket built-in for a screw fixing (and blade connections, though that's quite common).
In the end I had to buy a "similar" bulb online and do a tiny bit of O-level sheet metalwork to get it in place.  Lips are sealed

Re: Microwave lightb bulb

Thanks guys and gals for all your useful suggestions so far. I shall take them all on board (preferably on an open top submarine (HPsauce excepted)) and see what transpires.  Roll eyesSmiley

We keep it even simpler - we don't have a microwave. Smiley

Re: Microwave lightb bulb

@jnwright thanks yeah that came up high on my Google list. Just need to lift the lid and identify it.
@Pierre That's what I was expecting but was disappointed.

Re: Microwave lightb bulb

Just order "on-line" .................. job done !     Cheesy
Alternative, use gaffa tape to stick the bit back in , and then you won`t need the welder !  Roll eyes
will be easier to change the bulb next time too !  Grin Grin Grin
