Microwave Oven Problem

Every cold day at work I Microwave a tin of soup in a mug.
Most times when the clock dings the handle is round the back. Angry
Surely in this day and age of sophisticated electronics the turntable could be made to do an exact number of revolutions so the mug handle ends up at the front.
The reason for this complaint is I can get burnt reaching round the back of the mug for the handle.
Is this too much to ask Undecided

Re: Microwave Oven Problem

How about putting the mug in the microwave the opposite way round in the 1st place, then when it stops it will be in the right place!  Cool

Our old microwave used to do this. But it always confused my mother - she thought the microwave was just continuing to merrily cook whatever was inside even though the timer had reached 0.

Re: Microwave Oven Problem

You certainly get microwaves that do this (ours does!).  You need to look for one with a "boomerang turntable" such as this one, for example.

Re: Microwave Oven Problem

Indeed, you need to buy a new microwave. I regularly heat milk for my Shredded Wheat in our microwave, and if I place the mug handle at approximately the 10'clock position in the oven, 2 mins and 40 seconds later, my mug handle is exactly opposite the door opening.

Re: Microwave Oven Problem

It might be. but the turntable is directly driven by it's motor, rather than any belt drive, which probably helps. I can't recall it being more than a few degrees out of sync after the time. It did though take me a bit of experimentation to work out where to set the cup at the start. It's a Sharp combi/micro oven. the turntable also rotates in opposite directions each time it's started, which probably implies the motor has some form of electronic speed control, which allows rotational speed to be very accurate.

I only bought mine very recently but I have never heard of a 'Boomerang Turntable' until now.
Why didn't you tell me this before Tongue
