Tropical storm Michael is expected to be upgraded later today to a hurricane and to move into the Panhandle of Florida by tomorrow. I am further south in Tampa Bay where I have been for the past 4 weeks and we are expecting heavy rain but no other impact if the current direction is maintained.
A state of emergency has been declared in 26 counties in the Panhandle.
I don't have property or family in the hurricane area

I'm not surprised it's Bad with a name like that, it will no doubt turn out to be a 'Thriller' as well.

Michael now upgraded to a Cat2 with expectation of a Cat3 later today/tomorrow.
Maybe we should send A Message to Michael to leave us alone

Michael is now a cat.3 hurricane. A state of emergency has been declared in Florida, Alabama and Georgia as it becomes the worst hurricane for 13 years to hit the Florida Panhandle.
This afternoon at high tide we had water surges which are forecast to reach up to 12' in places. We had minor flooding which subsided as the tide went down.
A cat.3 hurricane has wind speeds of 111 to 129 mph.
It is only a few weeks sine Florence devastated parts of Virginia and the Carolinas. If Michael stays on its present track these States will again be hit.
We have another high tide during the night at about 3am.

Michael has now become a Cat.4 hurricane with winds of 140 mph.
Severe damage is expected as it moves on land later today.
We had street level flooding during the night and expect a similar happening at this afternoon's high tide.
We have winds of 40 mph so nothing like the Panhandle.
Suzy Wong on holiday I guess.

This has now been confirmed as the worst hurricane to hit the Florida Panhandle for 100 years.
Florida's governor has given a final call to people in the impact area to evacuate. Emergency services will stop responding to calls for help very soon.
Some great information here and live updates:
As always Florida is well prepared for what Michael has to throw at us. An important part of the job is to get things back to normal once the hurricane has passed. There are 19,000 personnel from Duke Energy standing by to get power back to affected areas as soon as possible. Other services are also standing by.
As I type this the Governor has announced that time for evacuation have come and gone.

Michael has just hit land at Mexico beach on the Panhandle with wind speeds of 155mph.
This makes it the third worst hurricane in US history.
Now we wait for the afternoon high tide to see what is in store for us.

In the 1970's, fewer & fewer people were interested in the NASA Moon landings, as time went on.....
I think the same thing may be happening, with "Hurricane Fatigue"
Weather events on the other sides of the World, East & West, don't appear to capture others imaginations, perhaps apart from a few minutes of TV News video here in the UK, apart of course from those of us with particular invested interests.
Photo's, just don't compare with Video, updated every few hours, with live Studio reports.
CNN provides such Videos, as do UK broadcasters to a lesser extent.
