Re: Meteor Shower

It's the 11th today isn't it?
[quote author="bbc"]In the UK, the best times to see the Perseids are likely to be on the morning of 12 August before dawn and from late evening on the 12th through to the early hours of the 13 August.

Re: Meteor Shower

Just had a look, clear sky with one Planet directly overhead, no stars yet, but did see a couple of meteor trails, and I think a Bat, never seen one at this location before.
@Bob
Think that is the maximum period Bob, from my scouting days a long time ago on a Night Hike, the were viewable all the night

Re: Meteor Shower

I don't suppose there is an upwardly pointing webcam is there, to save me the trouble of getting up from my chair?  Cheesy

Re: Meteor Shower

I did ask PlusNet to put one on the roof, it would be good to see whot is going on around PlusNet towers, well we can no longer see what is going on in PlusNet, so puting one webcam on the roof wouldn't hurt, what pand and scand.

Re: Meteor Shower

Many years ago I was lucky enough to spend all my free time on Sark, with one of these visits coinciding with Earth passing through the trail of the Shoemaker-Levy Comet (which I think later broke up and fell into Jupiter) in late August. I can’t remember which year but I’m guessing mid-eighties. The advantage of being on Sark at this time was, of course, that there are no street lights (well actually, there are no streets!. Okay there’s one, called The Avenue) consequently the sky is very dark at night; great for viewing events like this. The shooting stars were like fireworks for several evenings. I remember walking to one of the pubs on the island one evening, and I promise I was walking to the pub not away from it having enjoyed myself too much  Cheesy , when it suddenly became like daylight. I looked up and saw a sci-fi like ball with flaming trail careering across the sky. Patrick Moore on the next edition of The Sky at Night described it as a meteor exploding and showed a photo of it taken by an astronomer in Alderney

Re: Meteor Shower

It's been clearing from the north west - so maybe worth hanging on.

this image shows cloud over us, but that was at 20:00 but it's clear now
