Re: Metal detector

I think it could be fun if you tie it in with historical research, 'play by rules' ie: report important finds, and make sure you have permission from any landowner.

Happy digging. Thumbs Up

Re: Metal detector

I used to have one many years ago. Long before they were banned from being used here there and almost everywhere.

Most of the stuff found was rubbish. The rest lost coins etc. Nothing of any real value.Sad

Re: Metal detector

I'm pretty confident that you will make more money than doing the lottery.

Even if most of it will be small change.

Re: Metal detector

If the objective is financial reward then you may be right, but is that what metal detecting is all about?

It would be a pity if it was.

Re: Metal detector

I heard once that there was a total of £12 million in the back of people's sofas.  Get a metal detector and a vacuum cleaner and offer a free door-to-door sofa cleaning service.

Re: Metal detector

I had one back in the 70s, all I ever found were pull rings off coke cans and milk bottle tops. Oh and one rusty broken padlock.

Re: Metal detector

Reminds of that joke about some guy kept digging only to realise that it was his steel toe cap boots setting off the detector. Cheesy

I`ve made more money than my missus, by NOT doing the lottery....  she squanders £4 a week on it, ... over the past two years she has been "rewarded" for her pesistance with "wins" totalling £35.00 ..... meanwhile I have not squandered that much per week, and subsequently I am ( supposed to be ) better off, to the tune of over £400.00 Shocked

Re: Metal detector

Mine spends at least that much each week on those countryside gardening type magazines.

At least you might win a zillion @shutter, all I get is huge pile of "cannot possibly throw away" stuff about lifestyles and Lupins.

Thumbs Up

Re: Metal detector

A great idea.  Don't buy the cheap ones, it's a waste of time. A good quality one can differentiate between gold coins and beer can pull tops.  Make sure to buy the luck attachment and a dust cover for when it's on the shelf 51 weeks of the year. Wink

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Re: Metal detector

Well if it's gold coins you are looking for, 51 weeks of the year is what you'd need to be out there digging. Smiley

Re: Metal detector

Interesting idea. Sure I remember my dad showing me one.
Anyone remember the game from the first series of the Crystal Maze?

I suppose the main problem is getting consent from the land owner to dig. Fine if it is your garden or a friends.

When my parents live there is a huge park (I mean goes on for miles), but I guess if I were to start digging there the council and the police won't be best pleased. Roll eyes
