Found they are very useful when straitened out and you bend a hook on the end for fishing wires, and poking them through cavity's to pull cables through the wall Smiley

Re: Metal Coat Hangers

I found them good for the following....

Retrieving things from drains,

Radio aerials

Clearing out sink plug-holes

Back scratchers....

and a new use for them...hanging up clothes in the wardrobe. Cool smiley

That's why I call my wife Google...she knows everything. She even has one with a magnet stuck on the end with a  bit of blue-tac for picking up needles, drawing pins etc.

Re: Metal Coat Hangers

I seem to remember using some to make an advent crown in the 70's. Some sticky-backed plastic may have been involved, too Wink

Re: Metal Coat Hangers

I remember in the 80s people used metal hangers as car radio aerials lol. If you had an intact telescopic aerial that some little **** somewhere hadn't damaged you were doing well.

Paper clips - jumper wires on PCB verroboard (don't work terribly well but they do kinda work) to replace a lack of tinned copper wire

Cable ties for key rings..

Bench drill as a rudimentary milling machine (didn't work great but i tried lol)

Car engine and chain as a garage door stopper (It's a big 2.5 with autobox sat on a trolley with the brakes on chained to the inside of the door)

Washer as a replacement lever in a lock

Plastic tube from an electric desoldering iron as a release tool for the car seat fittings so i could get the carpet up..

To name a few..

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Metal Coat Hangers

Wire coat hangers used to be great for unlocking car doors before the advent of double locking.

When in London I locked my keys in my car.

Police failed to gain entry but the wife's uncle got the door unlocked in 15 seconds with a coat hanger.

Plastic Milk and Juice bottles, cut the base out and use as a mini clotch to cover lettuce and brassica (cabbage, broccoli, Cauliflower)  plants, for a few weeks in spring until established

Helps survive frost, deterrent against slug, diamond back moths and other species of pests.
