May Day bank holiday

Clearly I have not been watching much tv recently.....

Thought today was a bank holiday.......seems that has been changed to Friday in line with VE Day.

😀

ISTR some calendar makers being up in arms (no pun intended) last year when the bank holiday date was changed to VE day as they had already started production of their year 2020 issue.

@TTman

Must admit I sometimes lose track of days, since I retired it’s irrelevant what day it is unless something special is happening on that day.

Re: May Day bank holiday

I too wasn't aware of the change until I heard them plugging VE day with "We'll meet again....." it was then they mentioned the holiday move. Live and learn, although, food for thought. I wonder if the government will reimburse everyone for the 3 public holidays that we haven't been able to enjoy since being in lockdown.

Ever helpful. Grin Sure, I’d love to help you out. Now which way did you come in?

If they do, you'll only get 80% reimbursed.😀

In 1995, when we celebrated the 50th anniversary of VE day, the bank holiday was moved from the 1st to the 8th May, i.e. the second Monday in May.

Re: May Day bank holiday

Why move bank holidays to "celebrate" an anniversary where all the participants are either dead or receiving a pension?

Re: May Day bank holiday

Perhaps it is to remember the fact that they died or fought in the service of their country and, as a result, you can 'celebrate' that you are a free person and not living under a Nazi regime.

Happy VE day,

Mike

Re: May Day bank holiday

It's all before I was born.

Why not "celebrate" a Trafalgar Day 215th anniversary, since it will fall on my birthday. 🤣
