Re: Malaysian Airlines Crash (MH17) near Ukraine/Russia border

Sky News were showing earlier one of the black boxes, but it wasn't clear where it was being sent. It's also not clear who is actually leading or involved in the investigation.

Normally after a crash there are representatives of the airline, aircraft manufacturer, engine manufacturer, countries of accident and take-off and experts from a recognised investigation organisation such as CAA.
I assume these people are standing by waiting for permission to undertake their work.

Just shows what type of person Putin is, if he had nothing to hide he could have sent troops to take charge of the area, the pro Russian gangs  could hardly take action against them but all Putin can do is say it's nothing to do with  Russia.

Looks like he has until Tuesday.
Quote
Downing Street said the prime minister, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande agreed in talks on Sunday that securing access to the crash site and ensuring specialist teams could recover victims should be top priority.

Quote
"They also agreed that the EU must reconsider its approach to Russia and that foreign ministers should be ready to impose further sanctions on Russia when they meet on Tuesday [at the Foreign Affairs Council]," a spokesman said.

Re: Malaysian Airlines Crash (MH17) near Ukraine/Russia border

Just watched an excellent report on C4 News. Their reporter seems to have got to the crash scene and has been showing some of the evidence. So sad. The reporter also showed one of the wings from the plane in a disused farm that was totally unguarded.
The reporter then showed bodies being recovered and stored in refrigerated railway carriages.
Also C4 reported that a conversation had been intercepted this morning regarding the black boxes. The conversation stated the boxes had to be found and moved to Moscow.
Putin is responsible for this tragedy and the world should remember that.

There's also a video out there of the separatists and locals throwing parts of the plane into what looks like a rubbish truck. The video is unfortunately very graphic, so I am not going to post it.

I think it may be part of the C4 report.

@ artmo - Will check it on the Channel 4 website to see if it's the same.
@ nozzer - Yep, that's by far the best source of up-to-date info I've found. I also like using the Airliners.net Forum (http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/6132177/) but it's become a been political, i.e. East v West, on there.

It'll be a [Censored] if it turns out the Ukrainian military fired the missile from separatist held territory....as some have suggested.

Re: Malaysian Airlines Crash (MH17) near Ukraine/Russia border

I just cannot see how this can have been the Ukrainians. There is no evidence to support that and you would expect the Russians would have released some kind of evidence pretty much straight away to strengthen their argument.
The Americans are clearly monitoring the Ukrainian/Russian border with their satellites. It would not surprise me if they release some evidence, showing that these SAMs came from Russia (or went back there).
We're not talking your basic rifle or pistol here. These are armed militia, with military hardware that you do not pick up at your local supermarket. I think Russia is supplying the military equipment and the men.
