Re: Malaysian Airlines Crash (MH17) near Ukraine/Russia border

ARRC take between 5 and 30 days to deploy a force.

Re: Malaysian Airlines Crash (MH17) near Ukraine/Russia border

really ?
In my day they were out the door in under 4 hours of the balloon going up on call 24/7 for 3 months at a time and call out ex every week to make sure everyone was where they should be with what they needed .... then again I was always in spearhead det so perhaps we had a faster flash to bang time than that of the remfs

the un should of deployed a security team immediately they were aware of the crash to secure the area and safeguard the evidence, the Russians would of kicked up a stink though as the only people able to send a team quickly would of been A.R.R.C., because as an international team that wasn't Russian the Ukrainians wouldn't of had a problem with them doing something that they couldn't do themselves ...
Do you seriously think that deploying a NATO Force in a war zone where the combatants holding the area were pro Russian militants with probable Russian backing would have done anything more than create an enormous problem and potentially a major incident
Don't even think about the UN as that would require a Security Council Resolution and the chances of that getting through with a potential Russian veto would be nil

Re: Malaysian Airlines Crash (MH17) near Ukraine/Russia border

From what I understood from news reports investigators and the press were kept away from the main site for up to 36 hours due to pro Russian rebels gunfire.
The concern is what has been removed in that time and where it has been removed too

Re: Malaysian Airlines Crash (MH17) near Ukraine/Russia border

There have Been suggestions that some members of the EU are keeping a low profile on this as they get much of their energy supplies from Russia and there would be serious financial implications if these supplies were stopped

hq arrc is not the same as the main force which is made up of multiple smaller groups that are a lot faster at getting wheels up primarily because they don't need to pack the office into a truck in order to move into the battlespace

@OJ
since there are all different nationalities in JRRF (part of ARRC) including nations sympathetic to Russia it would indeed be possible to send a force under a un or nato banner without too much fuss being raised its not just EU and US troops under there command Smiley
@ge
that includes the UK, the problem though is far worse for Russia because without the cash flow from the west there economy goes belly up a lot faster than it takes for the west to switch supply lines, here in the UK we already have tandem shipments of LNG secured for our energy needs for the next 80 years

Yes Germany in particular relies on Russia for its energy and Merkel has kept very quiet about the whole incident.  I wonder what her position would have been had there been Germans on board.

The JRRF is a UK Force not multinational http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Rapid_Reaction_Force
The ARRC is specifically part of NATO so does not include nations supportive of Russia unless you think that Poland and the Czech Republic fall into that category (note they are in NATO)

No other country or organisation is going to send any armed personnel  to the Ukraine even if they are encouraged to do so by those in charge of the country.
The Americans are the ones who are verbally putting the most pressure on Putin , I wonder what would have happened if Bush & Blair were still in power ?

This is what Moscow residents think about who was responsible - http://www.rferl.org/content/russia-media-mh17-airline-crash-coverage-malaysia/25462227.html?_ga=1.2...
Amazing how the woman at the start thinks it's an American plot!
