Looks like another Costa Cruises' vessel in trouble

Cruise ship Costa Allegra adrift off Seychelles
Quote
An Italian cruise ship with more than 1,000 people on board is without power in the Indian Ocean following a fire.

Quote
The ship is from the same fleet as the Costa Concordia, which capsized off the Italian coast in January, killing 32.

Quote
There are 636 passengers and 413 crew on board the Costa Allegra, which left Madagascar on Saturday.

I never liked their coffee

Perhaps they were roasting some beans at the time of the fire !

(@strat... I had an Austin Allegro for a year or so.... used to get 55 mpg out of it... so was quite pleased.... basic runabout, but worked well ! )

Re: Looks like another Costa Cruises' vessel in trouble

You'd think given that electricity is rather important aboard ship they might just have redundant power generation as part of the design of a cruise ship. In fact they could duplicate many things to provide a least half capacity if one system fails or burns. For example; dual engines in different locations, dual fresh water generation, dual steering, dual propeller systems, dual captains, etc.

Alternatively.... tow another ship behind.....just in case something breaks on the lead ship.....transfer the crew and passengers and continue

Re: Looks like another Costa Cruises' vessel in trouble

going back to that Austin All Agro
an Italian word ending in O is masculine and ending in A is feminine  so as it is a ship it is Allegra
and that one with the odd shaped steering wheel that reckon a woman had more sense than drive it so it is Allegro
and that word translates as cheerful Crazy Crazy

Re: Looks like another Costa Cruises' vessel in trouble

I always assumed allegro was from musical term - quick & lively.
One I liked was reason Ford never called a certain car Caprini as per their original thought  Smiley
